Traffic permitting, pulse and glide or coast seems to help out the mpgs for those dreaded 1 mile trips on a cold engine. If no one behind, I'll just get off the gas and coast down the street, usually to the next stop light. Funny how often the light is red. If a bunch of ICEers are close behind, coasting not an option. Thing I hate the most is engine running to warm up. But that would be helped with an engine block heater I suppose.
yeah, I hate those under 30mpg short trips too. But even with pulse and glide the ICE won't shut off when it's cold. Although it does seem to work a little better than babying the pedal because my gauge reads under 20 mpg even if I try to baby the pedal when the engine is cold.
I don't like the dreaded engine warm up cycle on each hop from store to store or home on cold engine.
