Phase Two - Drive Normal

Yeah, we are actually a 3xC2 family, but the third (my dad's) lives in another state. His mom, who lives with us, owns the other. She works the graveyard shift, so there really isn't any reason for him to drive *our* car except in the wee small hours of the morning when he wants/needs to run to the market or play a little video poker.

I like your idea of a challenge, though, except that he seems to have such contempt for this car (it's not a "real" car, it's a plastic car, it's a toy car, etc.) that I don't know if he'd accept or not. Still, it's an intriguing concept.

 

Nah, I'd rather slow down early so that I hit the light green and whoosh past all the people that waited and had to tap the brakes.

 

If it's not a real car, then he can really walk wherever he wants from now on.

Love my husband more than words can tell, but sometimes he can frustrate me just as much. Even after I took a magnet to the car, he insists on calling it a "plastic" car. For someone who is mired in tech and tech-savvy, he can be very backwards at times.

Personally, I think he's just pissed off and resentful because he didn't notice (during our full-day test drive) that the car did not have an ashtray.

 

Revan, 66 mpg average over 10 fuel-ups? Jealousy-inducing...you must have a block heater, esp. in northern IL.

 

Its funny, I do that a lot when driving. It was much easier to save gas doing that in my 5 speed manual Corolla than any reasonable gains in my Jeep, but I still do it. IMO it saves time since the light is not going to turn green just because you rush up to it (and the momentum saved by not breaking). I really don't drive much in my present circumstances (work is .2 miles away, groceries 1 mile away, I walk or bike to both) but if and when I do, old habits die hard I guess .

 

Coasting to a stop sign or red light works on your bicycle too!

My wife always tells me I'm driving too slow. It seems like a lot of the times when she says that, I tell her, "don't you see that red light up ahead?". She just doesn't get the concept.

That's probably why I spent a lot of money getting new brakes on her Highlander about 3 months ago. As soon as I got in her car to drive it, the brake noise was very obvious. When I asked her about it, she said that she had never heard it. :-(
