Does anyone know where the cabin filters are in the 2011 Prius? Can I purchase and install myself? I used a fragrance packet that turned very rank when the weather got hot. I have removed it, aired the car for several days, and cleaned the carpet where it was laying. Smell is still there when air circulates and I have to drive with the window down it is so bad. I am thinking the smell is in the filters now.
Behind the glove box. Very easy to install, it just slides out. I recommend a charcoal filter from Amazon
There are ozone generating machines you can buy (or rent?) that could help in getting rid of the smell while the car is parked (if you have access to a power outlet).
Thank you! I can see it and it looks like plastic tabs are holding it in. Will a flat screwdriver push the plastic tabs back so I can remove it? Looks like thin plastic and I don't want to break anything.
I didn't remember, so I went and took a look. The glovebox opening is just a couple tabs at the top. The filter is a little trickier, because there may be some cables in the way. But you don't need any tools, it only has one tab on the right side that you pull to take off the cover. When you put it back in, put in the left end first then clip it in. Here is mine partly open.
Thanks for going above & beyond to take this picture. What I am looking at on my car is directly under the glove box and black plastic. Do I need to remove the glovebox to reach the filter?
Hmm, I wonder if they changed it in the 2013 model. I pop open my lower glove box and there is a panel in the glove box itself. I didn't need to remove the entire glove box, just the back panel. Once that is removed, I had a direct view of the filter, as seen in my earlier photo.
All the Prius v (2012 and on) has the panel so you don't have to remove the glovebox. Do any new model year Gen III Prius have this feature?
