I experienced the rough ICE start after a week of not driving and a cold start. Tripped the check engine light and got a warning telling me to pull the car over and stop driving. Dealer is replacing the intake manifold gasket. I do not see others having experienced this "fix" . Any thoughts? I do not yet have the car back. Good thing I have an S2000 to get me around while I wait!
I have a feeling you may also get a new intake manifold. Did they not offer you a loaner while your new car is in for repair?
There have been many that have had their intake manifold (and gasket) replaced because of the knock issue. Fortunately you got the code thrown so there was no room for them to deny the issue happening. You can call them to double check, but I am sure they will be replacing the manifold as well.
I thought they would, but he said just the gasket. I'll ask Monday when they call. perhaps I misheard him. I know many had the entire thing replaced. That is why I was surprised he was doing just the gasket.
So, as you all expected, they did replace the entire intake manifold. I do not know what the repair costs since the car is a 2012 and still under warranty. So no new info, except that it is on a 2012 that I bought last summer.
If you're under 60,000 miles it should be covered by the power train warranty (longer warranty applies in CARB states). According to the TSB labor is 1.5 hours. Toyota list price for the manifold comes to $271.
