Has anybody seen this story: CalCars' First DIY Plug-In Prius Catches Fire, Burns Completely - The Green Optimistic Tinkering with this stuff didn't payoff this time :-/
FWIW, even with the substantial loss I would argue it did pay off. Without the tinkering done on that very car, there might never have been a PiP, a Volt, a Leaf, etc. Folks involved on the project took their learnings and went on to found a number of the major conversion companies, demonstrated what could be achieved, and fueled the grassroots demand and political backing that eventually convinced Toyota and others to give plugins another try. Really their ought to be a shrine to that car somewhere, so the electric driving masses of the future can make the pilgrimage back to where it all began. Or at least where it all began again Rob
Yea . . . never mind the fact that car fire deaths by toxic-explosive-carcinogenic liquid fuel happens by the hundred & hundreds ever single day of the year. ... and yet we're conditioned to think gas fire deaths are just the price we HAVE to pay (as well as our war machine keeping control in far away lands), in order to move about in our daily life. Great. .
A friend of mine last week said she will never own a hybrid car because they will catch fire if you have an accident. Huh?! She said she "read that somewhere..." Yes, probably from the same internet source where you'll find your French model boyfriend to date! LOL!!
