Has anyone seen the advertisement for a Toyota settlement for Toyota, Lexus, or Scion vehicles with ETCS? Followed the link and found that the Prius Generation II is on the list. When I was at the dealer on Wednesday, he mentioned something about a recall that combined the Gas Pedal Fix AND it included some adjustment of the computer to help if the car "went out of control". I had only heard about having the gas pedal shortened and NEVER did the dealer tell me about the computer adjustment that went with it before this last visit. I know how to put in the ONE floor mat so didn't want the pedal shortened (he said they take off some of the rubber at the bottom?) but now with the reprogramming of the computer don't know what to do. Anyone?
IIRC, regarding campaign SSC-90L, there is no reprogramming involved on the Prius. Prius only requires modification of the accelerator pedal and replacement of the front all weather floor mats (if equipped). Modification of the accelerator pedal involves changing the contour of the bottom of the pedal, to provide additional clearance to the floor. The models that require reprogramming of the ECM to add brake-override function are Avalon, Camry, and Tacoma. Avalon, Camry, and Corolla require accelerator pedal modification and floor modification, which involves replacing or modifying a pad under the driver side floor carpet, and re-contouring the carpet. All remaining models involved only require accelerator pedal modification. All models involved will require removal of unsecured and stacked mats, and replacement of the front all weather floor mats, if equipped, and verifying that the driver's floor mat is properly secured with both hooks. There may be procedures for Land Cruiser and/or Sequoia that I am not familiar with, so the above may not apply to those two models. If there are any errors or omissions, feel free to post corrections.
^^^ I believe everything you stated is correct, at least regarding the Gen 2 Prius. I can't speak to the accuracy of the other vehicles. For me, my accelerator was trimmed for me, w/o them asking me first when I'd brought my car in for something else. They told me that if I wasn't happy w/it feel or whatever, they could order a new pedal assembly and install it. I'm fine with it. As for the mats, well, I don't have any of the Toyota mats (I got my dealer to yank them as I didn't want to pay for them). So, I didn't get a free replacement mat. Correct, this is no reprogramming. Never heard of any re: Gen 2 Prius.
I got a postcard in the mail yesterday for the class action law suit for the Toyota ECTS. It said I could join the settlement and something about keeping the postcard in the glovebox.
Have you visited the website yet? If so, did you join the settlement? We have the same thing here. The cards have been being mailed out since February and more still to come. There is a time limit on joining the settlement. For more info, visit the website that is on the postcard.
Well I definitely have experienced the condition that is explained on the postcard and I would like to be involved in the settlement! Thanks for the heads up, I will check it out tonight.
The SO here was not sure what to do, so I went ahead and joined it. Neither of us have had the experience, but with everything that has came up on the Prius, I think it would be best to have all the bases covered. Prius is a good car, but too many recalls, TSB's and so forth.
I got one of these post cards, too, and I went to the web site. To me, it seems like there is only coverage for future service, i.e., after they issue the extended warranty for the items mentioned: engine control module, cruise control switch, accelerator pedal assembly, stop lamp switch, and throttle body assembly. I did not notice if a claim could be filed for previous service on any of these items. I had my cruise switch replaced late last year, however, I did not see where I could file a claim for it. Am I missing something? It cost a fair amount for me to have this fixed, yet there is no coverage in the suit for this because I already had it fixed? Has anyone else had a similar experience?
