This is so true. My dad was a Chrysler employee for most of his adult life, and retired from Chrysler. In 1974 he traded his 1966 Plymouth for a new Toyota Corolla station wagon. It just wasn't worth keeping the Plymouth due to the cost of keeping it on the road, both fuel and repairs.

Like Sage said I try to buy American take 4 Dodge Caravans for me I've had so far. OK last one was VW Routan but that was a Caravan with a VW stamp. But as an engineer and conservationist-wanna-be I am going to want to try the best hybrid just like I tried the best minivan when we had kids.

If your stepdad is important to you, you might consider buying a Ford out of respect for him. If not show him the domestic content stickers from a Ford Fusion and a Toyota Camry, that might influence him.

 

RESPECT is one thing, buying a car or brand you don't want isn't showing respect.

 

That is untrue. The USA has significant manufacturing capacity. It doesn't make a lot of cheap consumer goods but it makes a lot of expensive machinery.

 

You can also remind your Father-in-law that here in the United State we have right to choose what we want. Respect is a two way street.

A great deal of their products are made in England, France and elseware around the globe. So, if you purchase a backhoe, track loader or skid steer, you might be surprised to find out it made in the USA. All or part.
