One of the cooling fans is making a lot of noise and vibration. will need to replace it. Also the stoplight on the drivers side is very faint to the point of not being able to see it in the daylight. They are LEDs so need to buy the whole assembly. 470,xxx miles
However, do keep in mind that brownsnoutuk did swap his engine last year, based upon Engine swapped, now car wont become ready | PriusChat. I didn't realize this until last night.
Good point, I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the info. After rereading the post about the swap, I do recall the post now. I had simply forgotten it. Ron
300,000 on my 2006 with option #6. In service in July, 06. I'm amazed, and so are people that ride in it and see it. Oil, filters, 2 trans fluid changes by me, 1 windshield, wipers, 3 sets of tires, 2 sets of HID lights, 1 pair of LED taillight bulbs, and 1 radio (under warranty). I added soundproofing to all the doors and as much of the dash as possible. Currently averaging 51.4 mpg with my new Ecopia tires (best mpg, slippery tire in the dry, weak sidewall-not quite as bad as GY Integrity) Original batteries, struts, brakes, etc. Yes, the odometer works after 300k miles. Lifetime average ~50.2mpg. Typical commute (1 way) is 30 miles 60mph 2 lane, 75 mpg freeway for 75 miles, stop and go for 5 miles. Total cost per mile of ownership is insanely low : $25k purchase, $2k taxes, $1500 tires, $2500 oil changes (mobil 1), $200 HID lights, $100 trans fluid, $250 windshield, $100 misc = $29,150 plus gas (6,000 gals x $3.50/gal avg = $21,000) = $50,150 total = $ 0.167 per mile (insurance not included) We'll be buying a Prius V in the spring, only because we want more room.
You mentioned back in May that you were useing about 1qt. oil every 4000miles. My 2004 Prius hit 270,000 this month and is using about the same amount of oil, and I have been useing Mobil1/Havaline synthetic. So how much oil are you using now? I have also been useing an engine block heater the last several years hopeing to keep the wear down on the engine. I see your getting over 100,000 miles per set of tires too, you must really drive easy on your Prius. If I get 50,000miles per set I go out and celebrate! At 65years of age I'm finally takeing corners under 20 mph, maybe that will get me a few more miles/set. At least I haven't replaced the brake pads yet either! Good luck on your next purchase, and thanks for your report.
3 sets of NEW tires, so I'm on my 4th set total now, so about 70k per set. Yes, about 1 quart every 4k. Using the High Mileage Mobil 1 seems to reduce oil consumption somewhat. I changed the oil every 5k for the first 100k, then at 10k intervals after that.
folks, 2005 Prius around 301,080 miles now. Also using the trip odometer because the main odometer is frozen at 299,999 Still have original hybrid batteries Drive around 55,000 miles a year, 95% of it highway miles. I'm hoping to get at least another 75K miles out of it. This is my second Prius. I had a 2002 with around 189,000 miles on it in 5 years and 2.5 months before it was totaled by someone who pulled out right in front of me in the middle of a massive fog. J.
Great story! Why stop before half million? Or even one million? If it still make sense financially, fix something and let it serve you more. If not, get a good 150K Gen II for $7000 and start over again. That's what I will do if I drive that much.
Had my highest mileage taxi cab check in today with 398,000. Driver complained that the motor was noisier than usual..... This one is not going to make 400k..... Better luck next time.
Motor was tired. It had a progressive rod knock. The cab company did not want to fix it until it failed which it did today. It had been knocking for about the last 50k miles.
i think i should be joining the club soon, i bought just bought an 04 with 295K miles yesterday, has carfax for 4 owners and the last owners seem good and did lots of service records and no major service, no brakes,hv battery,engine/tranny, and the last few service before car went out it had the hv battery checked and it was good it also had brakes checked about a few thousand miles ago if i remember correctly. it doesnt seem like they have been done. the brakes are about 5-10% left on front pads. this car was originally from N.C. area then went to florida for the majority of its life, it shows to have no accidents and it looks that way(minus an crack in rear spoiler). when i picked up the car the headlight relay went out and didnt realize until i couldnt see going down the road, had to turn around and go back to lot to get figured out and took relay from another car. all this said, i believe this car is original minus some relays, fuses, and tires though i can be 100% certain. if and when these items fail, i will get a junkyard engine/trans out of same vehicle never unhooked and put both in together. if the battery fails i will put gen 3 batteries in. if the 12v battery goes out, ill put optima yellow top gel in like i did in my 02 prius. in a few months i should be around the 300K mark
