I think Ford was recently also getting slammed. They can't stop running the ads now, that would show guilt. Who knows how this will turn out, after all, someone won the "My coffee cup did not warn me it was hot battle." Our legal system can be unpredictable sometimes.

    ^ Easy!
If there's one thing that can do with Prius drivers...it's divert them! :D

Just say that you're going to trade your G3 in for a C-Max since you figure that the TCO is waaaaaaay better than a Pip!

    ...or.....

Say (write) something nice about the Volt! :(

    ...or....

Say that we ought to trade reciprocity for marriage licenses for reciprocity for weapons licenses (!!)

    There!
    See how easy???

I looked closely at the Volt when my 2010 Prius lease ended. They get 40 miles on a full charge on their best day. It takes about 13kwh to bring them back to full charge. At my SoCalEdision tier 5 rate (.32/kwh), that 40 miles would cost me $4.16 which is just about the current cost of a gallon of regular around here these days. For my situation, the Prius makes far greater sense to own. Hence, my acquisition of a 2013 Persona in Blizzard Pearl.

I almost got the black cherry pearl, love the body and wheel color combo:) But my local dealerships slapped on "additional" $ on top of MSRP Car was pushing 30K. Then I found a deal on my 2013 Prius 2 for 21500 plus tax, I couldn't justify walking away from that deal. So I since started to Mod my Prius with the $ I saved.

I heard Cali also have different rates for electricity during different times of the day. I think all those calculations would make my headache!

if you had to burn 2 gallons of diesel ($10.?) to create enough electricity to power the volt 40 miles, and only had to pay $1.50 for the electricity, that would be a difficult way for the power company to make a profit. (not sorry WilMent for hijacking your thread.:) )

:ROFLMAO: I hope I don't annoy anyone on PC, I have the unique ability (not proud of) to change topics:notworthy: .

Still digging in the PIP threads to find some consensus on energy $. Not easy since everyone has different rates on their electric bill, 110 vs 220 charger, distances travel... omg my head is going to explode. I'm going to quit now, since I don't plan on owning a single family home for at least a few more years.

If you're pretty sure that you're going to live in the SeaTac area...buy the house now and the car later. We're pretty close to the bottom of the housing market (either way) so ten years from now the house will be worth at least close to what you're paying for it (either way.) Plus......you get to live in it.
If you don't screw up Marriage 1.0, develop a chemical dependency, or whiff the income stream........you might even get to keep the house.
Ten years from now your G3 will have depreciated somewhat more. Same with your next car....unless you're deep enough to buy an investment grade ride....and you're not gonna get to use that to go to Starbucks, so it's the same either way. ;)

Yes, C-Max Energi has a top speed of 85mph on all electric, unfortunately the Prius can't beat that with a top all electric speed of 64mph on the PIP.

I see, I thought that top speed was both electric and ICE. Oh boy this may change my choice of a Prius plug in as my initial commute everyday is all highway at 80 MPH (flow of traffic)

You have to do a lot of research before deciding- that "85mph on all electric" figure is from Ford, one review I read said that at 70mph the electric motor was laboring and had to look at the speedo to confirm they actually accelerated to 75mph because the acceleration was so anemic.

And now Ford is under investigation by the EPA for their mpg claims in their hybrid vehicles...

    At least with the PIP we have actual users who drive in the real world and post their actual results here;
    Jan 2013- miles driven 1450, final mpg= 84
    Feb 2013- miles driven 1190, final mpg= 79

I hate when dealers do that. Mine was $25699 but I leased. Yes, there is an option for EV owners to have different rates during the day. But, the rate in prime time during the summer is a ridiculous $.60/kwh. If you have people at home that need to use the AC, you're going to pay through the nose. The value of an all-electric vehicle is certainly dependent on the cost of your electricity which appears to depend a lot on where you are in the country. California (at least where I am) is not very conducive - unless you invest in solar which is an entire other discussion.
