I had that happen to me when I was driving a rental outside of LA. I assumed I was about to get car jacked and called 911 who somehow setup a road block and put both drivers on the asphalt. I got an earful from the CHP officer when my hometown sheriff called and asked him if he needed any further assistance. :)

Thanks for the pointer to the video! Never seen it before.

Those guys are a bit nuts. For those not familiar, the noises from the radar/laser detector at the 11 second mark are a laser detection from a Valentine One. His speed got read by the cop unless he had a laser jammer. What's with the two strips near the top of the windshield? Are those laser jammer emitters or something else?

Can you imagine if the cops deployed spike strips and or a chopper? Those guys didn't even have a garage to hide in.

Now that you mentioned it, I was only judging the way he zipped through heavy traffic without losing any control of the car or lost too much speed in the process.

Still, they are nuts. I've learned about taking extreme high risks that you might get away today, but tomorrow, well you might not see tomorrow. I try to do a risk assessment and a cause and effect before I even think about taking moderate risks. At least I tell myself that. Because to many what I did with the C-MAX at speeds no greater than 75 mph is already extremely dangerous. To me, with no passengers I was taking a moderate risk. I might be over estimating my abilities believing that I had race track experience and defensive driving time in a war zone but that is my assessment, and at the moment I felt the need to defend myself and teach that moron a lesson. Hindsight 20/20, I would probably not do it again the same way.

Agree, they are nuts. They put themselves and others in danger.

If the cops end up using choppers, spike strips, roadblock, etc. and get you, you can be sure you'll pulled over w/guns drawn and massive reckless driving ticket, at minimum. Trying to run the cops even in a very fast car, is crazy IMHO. Fast motorcycle would be easier but even more dangerous to the rider.

(Most "high performance" car I ever owned was a 287 hp Nissan 350Z.... definitely not anywhere near the Ford GT in acceleration.)

Wow, they must have blocked you for a long time. We only did it for about a mile just to prove a point. You did the right thing calling the cops, I would've done the same. Especially when you did not do anything to provoke the situation.

I have no idea if I might have provoked it. I am not the most attentive driver so I could have easily cut one of them off earlier or something. It turned out they both had outstanding warrants which must have shown when I called in the license plate of the one in front of me. handsfree is a great feature on a mobile phone, albeit distracting more often than not.

Thanks. I don't want to sound condescending and it is the job I chose to defend my country, but civilians and many non-combat military personnel will never understand what it is like to be deployed and constantly get attacked for a year. I had to get back in my car when I went to watch the New Year's fireworks with my family. I tore up my conceal pistol permit and took the gun out of my car. I am getting much better now, thankfully this did not happen right when I got back. I might have totally lost it and took him off the road.

I'm glad everything ended well for you. Mistakes do happen, and I am pretty understanding. I'm used to getting cutoff and most of the time predicted the other cars intentions and give them more space to safely cut in. But this time it was a blatant foul on his part. Just like whnt we do in our jobs, we react to contact and almost never initiate.

I almost got car jacked in Mexico, on the highway between Mexico City and Toluca, but I had a security escort following me at the time. The experience made me a little paranoid as well.

Is ok to be paranoid, as long as it is not to the extreme. In time, I think being paranoid turns into being attentive. Having a security detail is good, but IMHO confidence and peace of mind can only be obtained by personal training. Having both the ability to handle yourself and a security detail is a combination that is hard to beat.

About your state side experience, I would have also called the cops and loaded my weapon at the same time:D

Now, you are just teasing me. I think it is good because you can see both side of the coin. Kind of a "been there done that but choose not to do it now" attitude. Makes a much more well rounded person. I much rather to have the ability to do something to remedy my situation and choose not to compare to be limited and cannot do anything no matter the situation.

Yeah, it takes lots of work sometimes to keep it together. But it will get better as the days, months and even years go by. Keep talking with people you trust and cut yourself a lot of slack. I still can't believe how just one year of combat fucks with us in some way for the rest of our lives. But it does so we have to take care of ourselves to be functional enough to have a decent life. You deserve a good and happy life Wilment I wish you the best:). Sorry I'm new here and don't know how to pm this.

Thanks, I'm doing ok, my defensive mechanisms comes on now and then, it is more like I am myself in my teenage days all over again. Mood swings and anger problems, nothing too extreme at all. But as months go by I have mellowed much. Problem identified and will overcome:)
You take care also, wish you the best.

AKA "First On Race Day." Used to have that on the rear quarter of my 351C HO powered dirt track Torino. Won the track championship with that car and loved to rub it into the chevy guys.

With all the veterans associated with Joint Base Lewis McChord returning from the big war zones, and all the PTSD issues that come home with that, I'm surprised some Tacoma drivers haven't learned to not trigger them.

Maybe he just didn't expect to find a recent war veteran driving a Prius.

One of my favorite Tacoma stories was a couple decades ago. Some wanna-be gang members spotted some skinheads in the Tacoma Mall, figured them to be from a rival gang, and challenged them to a fight. The skinheads declined. The gangsters refused to take 'No' for an answer, and started fighting anyway.

Turned out that the 'skinheads' were off duty Army Rangers from nearby Fort Lewis.
