Getting Unplugged & Plugged at LAX

given that a pip charges in 90 minutes…nothing stops them from taking that spot and unplugging you while you're away.
plus…as a PHV…you're leaving a dedicated EV space available for them to use.

 

Please tell me what good is an EV space without the Charging Station Plug?

It is as good as a regular parking space perhaps?

 

what? again, they can unplug you 90 minutes after you've parked! so … it's very good, because it's still right next to the charger, and there's a very high likelihood that you can unplug the cord from whatever car is "using" it when you arrive?

 

As a Leaf driver I would never count on a charger being available.
This is sad, because I am limited to only going 30 miles from my house.
There needs to be more chargers, but I think the real answer is that when the
Charging is more expensive, there will be more open spaces.
How many plug in hybrids will charge when it costs more to charge than gasoline costs?

 

But if that happens, you will also be paying more to charge your Leaf than you would to drive a gasoline powered car, right? Disclosure: In nearly a year of owning my PiP, I haven't found the need to charge anywhere but in my gargage, nor have I needed to park it at LAX. So you could say I "don't have a dog in this fight."

 

today i had a rather crazy day in terms of charging:
–left the house fully charged (10.1 mi), drove 40 miles
–charged 1.772 kWh (~6 mi), drove 7 miles (mostly highway)
–charged 2.386 kWh (~9 mi), drove 35 miles
–charged full (10.1 mi, from wall outlet), drove 17 miles to come back home
so…drove almost 100 miles, charged up ~35 miles. was running with the low fuel light on half the time too, so had quite the motivation to charge up as much as possible lol.

 

All of these comments are contributing to a great open discussion, however its all for nothing because the free parking(problems) are leaving starting March 1. I'll add my two cents since I visit LAX often. The chargers are set up one per space. The problem is people leave for long periods of time, 30 days max for free. No car out there takes 30 days to charge and is usually charged in less than 24 hours. The car sits there taking up a cord for the remainder of the 29 days which I believe is a waste of a charger. I believe the chargers should have been installed, one cord every two parking spot minimum. So although people are frustrated I believe some frustration is really meant to be directed towards poor planning and ultimately poor support of the electric vehicle by LAWA(LAX). LAX promised support of the electric vehicle, and then removed it completely. In my opinion that is bait and switch. I think a better solution would have been to limit the number of free days to less than the current 30 days. Please contact LAX and let them know your concerns.

 

Wait, isnt it illegal to unplug someone even if they are fully charged?

 

do not know, but I have a card stuck to the inside rear window in my pip that says feel free to unplug.

I would be able to drive 120 miles and pay for 60.
If that cost me $15 I would be ahead.
And not used any gas.

 

Obviously depends what car you compare to. If a Prius – not really ahead.

 

Just leave the EV home and take the airport shuttle or have someone pick you up.
