It says that pip only had a 2500 but right now it also has 4000 cash back on base 5000 on advanced on top of that so the base model is really only $25,500. Even 0% financing for 60 months.

I believe the $4000 rebate is from toyota and only available if you finance the purchase of the vehicle with toyota financial service. If you pay cash or finance with another bank or credit union you don't get the $4000 off. Please check if you think this may not be the case.

I found this out indirectly when someone was trying to purchase the RAV4 EV with the $6000 rebate offered by Toyota.

I'm not going to throw in special promotions. How many Volts do you think are sold at MSRP? The big volume dealerships are $2500 under invoice and 0% financing. Finance deals come and go.

I would be wildly more interested in a Volt if:
    1) I use my car as a cargo carrier, not a people carrier (<-- see avatar and https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/22437_1348787722119_4829746_n.jpg) So a Volt Station wagon would interest me more than the current Volt. (In fact, I own a Prius v, although had they made a Prius v PHV, I would own that)

    2) I routinely drive 180 miles a day, so the gas mileage is at least as important as the electric mileage. (5*0+175/50 = 3.5 gallons of regular while 35*0 + 140/37 = 3.78 gallons of premium) Sadly my mileage is not to the same location, so charging at work would require the co-operation of dozens of clients.

    3) I harbor much more hatred for GM than I do for Toyota, due to having driven cars made by both companies before, and due to GMs misleading PR for the Volt and the BAS hybrids. (the first two are facts, this is a mere opinion I have formed)

Have you stopped in at a Chevy dealer to see if you can fit everything in to a Volt?

Also, while I can fit my mountain bike inside easily, I bolted on a Curt receiver hitch with 200 lbs rating and a bicycle rack. Could you carry the ladder and such on a rack?

My daily is less than 50 miles but I made a 180 mile trip to Houston following my daughter in our 07 Prius and used less gasoline in the Volt

Yes, I eye the Volt enviously, while I am having oil changes done on the wife's anti-prius. (Tahoe) I think the ladder would be between the driver and front seat passenger. As you can see in my link above, it was VERY tight in my Gen 2 Prius.

It is 57 inches long collapsed, so it would fit, at some hit to mileage. (Volt is 70 inches wide) I would need to be able to clean it to take indoors at clients. Amazon.com: Werner MT-17 300-Pound Duty Rating Telescoping Multi-Ladder, 17-Foot: Home Improvement

The Gen 3 should be about 5 MPG better than the Gen 2 she has, the PIP should be better yet. (the v is about 5 MPG less than the Gen 2)

I just went out and measured. 57 inches will fit behind the front seats but you might have to lay it flat rather than on it's side. I carried a 60" LED laying flat in the rear with the back seats folded down. The rear seats lay flat if you pull the seat cushions.

So the Prius V is about 40mpg? I get 43mpg ICE on the highway, but I tend to stay around 65mph rather than 75mph. I also tend to get 45 miles of EV, 50 if I stay away from a lot of hills, but I live in the hill country.

It is now, I expect it to go back to 44 MPG once it warms up. I spend most of my time at 61 MPH, unless I am on the freeway, say two days a month, then 71 MPH.

47.7 MPG measured (at the pump) from my Gen 2 with 118,185 miles of data.

50.0 MPG measured (at the pump) from my Gen 3 with 55,835 miles of data.

77.5 MPG with my PIP so far at 17,194 miles.

sounds like the Volt might fit, if all your gear fits. The days you turn in less than 180 miles, or you get a chance to charge at a client, you are going to be ahead. Being a technology guy, you are going to shine a little brighter as well :)

The ladder will fit I put on in my volt. If you really need proof when I can make my way though the snow to my shed I'll take a pic of the ladder in my volt but with yet another storm showing up this weekend it might be a while

There's no doubt the Volt interior is smaller than the others but it will still hold a lot. This is a 32x80 interior door:

How many 2 x 4 x 8' can it hold? Better yet, how many 2 x 12 x 8' scaffolding planks can be loaded with the hatch closed?

Tell ya what let's meet up at a home depot and fill your car up first then see if the volt can fit what was in your car.
