Grab Handle Sunglass Holder

So this fits on the Prius C? Sounds lik e- just wants to confirm. Great idea!

 

I was finally able to set it up today.

After playing with cage nuts, I finally decided to use the grab holder hole tabs for the job. I cut off the head parts with a dremel, then drilled a hole for the screw. The middle part is reinforced so I drilled slightly off-center:



Then I forced the original Suzuki screw into the hole. I had to use a PH3 screw bit for this so that it wouldn't strip. The screw got very hot during this process.

I repeated the process for the other end as well: (Before preparing the second tab, I went down to the car and tried it on, and marked which way it was offset. It turned out to be unnecessary, but as the saying goes; measure twice, cut once)



Here is the result:



It's not the sturdiest or the biggest sunglass holder (if I had huge oakley sunglasses, I would have trouble fitting them in) but it works.

 

So where do I get the license plate mounting hardware from? Amy generic one will do?

I'm having trouble popping off the cover for the handle - you said it was very easy - any other tips? i used a butter knife too but it wouldn't budge... thanks

See attached. Which arrow do you pry from? I'm thinking you're referring to the green arrow? I just need something super thin to wedge in there…

I used the blue arrow on the side I think- the knife was a very thin pate knife (not the normal table knife)

 

hmm, need to find something thin... i have those really thin screwdrivers (flat), but they're too small - don't have enough surface area to pop it open. much tougher than it looks! unless mine are particularly stubborn.

 

putty knife did the trick had enough leverage with it but i had to use a considerable amount of force. i scratched up the old grab handle quite a bit and one of the clips broke because of how much force i used - but no matter!

 

I keep my sun glasses in a soft case in the thin but wide vertical holder in front of the steering wheel.
Works fine for me. Couldn't think of another use for it. The case prevents the glasses from getting to hot.

 

Would someone be kind enough to measure the distance between the mounting holes on your C? I really want to do this same thing on a Gen III but before dropping the cash I'd like to find out if the hole spacing is the same or not.
