Thats a great pity, can you obtain a cheap ELM327 of Ebay I think over there in the US it will be $10-$15.

Yeah i agree. Iam thinking of picking up one of those Xhorse/techstream connectors. I heard they do everything techstream does but without the registration/subscription pert of it.

I don't think Techstream or AutoEnginuity connectors could work. You need an ELM compatible OBD-USB device. OBDLink SX is a relatively low cost option if you choose to stay away from the "clones".

I will look into those. will those also work for this new techstream software?

No. Techstream needs a different kind of connector.

Ok. does the obdlink SX allow me to get into the hybrid system of my car as well as abs and all that?

If you want to be able to talk to all the ECUs and perform dealer level services then just go with Techstream - that's the tool the dealers use. PriiDash only display and log some drive data, it does not do brake bleeding or zero point calibration for example.

The mini vci devices from the East use a FTDI USB2.0 interface to a NXP Cortex(x) MCU driving a HS CAN and MS CAN Ports on the DLC3. The LIN Port is unpopulated on the one I have.

The software supplied consists of the FTDI VCP Drivers and an unlocked version of Techstream but not all modules may be unlocked.

The brake bleed funcion is enabled on the on I bought on the little testing I did on the wekend.
I did use it to clear the Ucodes that were generated by my experiments on the CAN Bus and the misfire codes that were stored. It showed 3 misfires possibly over the past 123000 mi which I cleared also.

    Hi ccdisce,

The Mini VCI that I bought 2 yrs ago does support K-Line. It seems that there has been a lot of cheap ones flooding the market recently.

Disassembly of the fake mini VCI cable

I suspect the K-Line was removed due to cost and also newer cars (starting from 2004) are not using them anymore.Your Gen2 has a mixture of K-Line and CAN so some functions will not work.

FYI, my firmware ver. is 2.0.1 and the recent one is 1.4.1.

    Vincent,
I did some more poking around on the one I bought and this is what I see:

    a. A ISO 1050 CAN PHY for the CAN Bus which is terminated in 120 Ohms (a no no)
    b. A Siliconix Si9241AEY K-Line Transceiver terminated in 510 Ohms
    c. Pads for a second transceiver for the L-Line

Do you know if 1. the Gen2 use KWP2000 protocol with a CAN PHY
    2. if so the speed 1M maybe
    3. How is the BEAN Bus driven? via the Gatway ECU maybe?

    Winston.

    1. Nope, it uses the K-Line directly.
    2. 9600 baud.
    3. Pls refer to this link on BEAN Bus.

    Thanks for the link.

Can the K-Line be used to talk to the devices on the BEAN Bus?

Yes, K-Line (SIL on the DLC3) is not only connected to the devices on the BEAN Bus, it is also connected to many other CAN devices (for diagnostic purposes only) except HV ECU, ECM & Bty ECU.

Uh wow. I could never do this in my car. I get distracted enough with all the buttons and different displays! I can't imagine having this thing. I'd probably be in a car accident before I backed out of my parking space!

Great work though. Neat to know there is stuff like this out there.

    2013-05 new release

This new version adds capability to read generic DTCs. The Gauge Window is changed to wide format. Sorry I haven't done much with the Lite version yet.

Nice job, I managed to get hold of my netbook and installed Priidash, I downloaded an older version for Windows as the latest one refuses to work, with that Linux type runtime installed on it according to the instructions that came with Priidash.

Some of the parameters aren't working, I'm still tweaking the connection as it's a Bluetooth chinese ELM clone.

Love the way you managed that tablet in between the steering column and the dash, I'm thinking a way how to mount the netbook from the ceeling, near the light or get hold on a used 2003-2006 MFD and fiddle with it and a used PC motherboard.
