Toyota recently launched a completely redesigned site. Two things of note:
–EV Mode description has a footnote which reads: "Prius Plug-in EV Mode is a blended operation of electricity and gas and can work under certain conditions up to 11 miles on a full charge. Quick acceleration and braking, road and vehicle conditions, or climate control use may prevent or limit usage or effectiveness of EV Mode." However, if you don't read the footnote, you'll be hard-pressed to expect "EV" mode to use gas: "EV Mode 7 8 is great for those shorter trips. Prius Plug-in has an EPA estimated driving range of 11 miles in EV Mode range, and you'll be able to cover them quickly since it's capable of traveling up to 62 mph on electric power alone."
–Availability information has been updated to say that a nationwide rollout won't be happening until "late 2013". Who knows, maybe we won't see deep incentives like we last year because they'll redistribute excess vehicles? lol
Oh and finally, the site is so heavy on multimedia and dynamically laid out content that it brings my relatively new Macbook Pro to its knees. I wonder what hardware the Toyota web dev team tested their work.

Oops on their part, they show a PiP with regular liftback taillights next to the "Versatility" part as you scroll down...

haha nice catch. my favorite though is this picture:

note the unbelievably crappy and blatantly obvious photoshop job to change the battery SoC and EV miles remaining graphic!

I must like funky colors but I always thought a Prius would look good in one of those orange rust colors.

The wording on the webpage says: "Availability will open up to all other states in late 2013." That basically just tells us the expansion will be here & there throughout the year, but don't expect availability everywhere until later.

We pretty much already knew that would happen anyway. Even within the new states could be spotty. I was told not all dealers around here would get inventory at the same time. We have also been told that the domestic market (Japan) would get priority as well. Since the EV market here has been so wishy-washy and loaded with political rhetoric, that isn't much of a surprise.

The market is no longer choiceless like it was when Volt first rolled out. The this-or-nothing situation no longer exists. Ford offers a choice of two different plug-in hybrids. Honda offers one too. None of them resemble GM or Toyota in operational characteristics. Confused feedback from consumers already is reason to focus on existing markets more than expanding to new ones.

just tried. complete nightmare, just like the old one. could it be any more difficult to navigate? try to look through the eyes of the typical consumer, not those of hi tech workers which many are here. also, tried to build avalon hybrid, kept taking me to base avalon. figured it wasn't available here and that's why, so i tried hycam, same situation. oh well.

site allows you to compare specs between Prius and Volt/Leaf but Cargo space is curiously left out of the listing... seems that would be a big advantage for Prius

It said a comparably equipped Volt (to a Base PiP) is $42k.

Well, it might work fine if you aren't a heavy user. I have about 15 tabs open in safari alone, along with something like 10-15 other applications in the background.

I just use this old clunker for web and email... 2 gb max ram and old 2.0 ghz intel core duo wont let me do much else. Photoshop really throws it under the bus. With the cost of $2500 back in the day I'm going to use it till it quits...

Still works better than the iPad though for web browsing.

I am using a good PC laptop that is 2 years old with FF. I have 4 windows open, each with 30 to 50 tabs at any given time. Most are doing AJAX requests constantly, some are streaming constantly. Lots are PDF windows too. I currently have 2 other virtual machines running in addition to my host OS, my CAD software going, my PCB route/layout software, 2 instances of Visual Studio, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and 2 remote sessions to my server and validation PC. It is a standard PC with 8GB of RAM and an i5. It serves this up with no problems.

The new site and old site worked perfectly. Their bad photoshopping techniques are another story though...

Wow.. that implies they added an upgrade to 16KW battery, that's an amazing change for 2013, I figured battery upgrades were not until 2015 ;-)
