ICE in EV Mode ... Again

    15.8 miles driven, i left for work with 11.8 out of 12.3 typically, got there with 7.2 on the trip meter and 5.2 left of ev range. recharged at work fo 50 minutes bringing the range upto 8.5 and stopped at lowes on the (almost) way home.

    Just in case some may be confused about this statement, there is no physically separate part of the battery for HV vs EV. It is just a matter of how the software is managing the charging process.

  3. At the end of each journey, what does the HSI state after powering off? In mpg?
     
  4. I did not think there was, but some portion must be allotted to HV And some portion to EV, determined by computers.
     
  5. . I did not specifically answer your question. If the car is in EV and the load is
    increased then the engine does come on, sometimes. At highway speeds. Really a lot depends on how warmed up the car is, basically referring to coolant temps. I go to the gym (0700) in pure EV temp in garage 48, car sits for 2 hours outside and is running almost immediately in HV . OAT 39F

    Fuelly does not register fills over 200 mpg but does calculate them. Look at my fill-ups and you will see the larger fills. :)

    As I understand it, "EV" or "HV" is just a mode in the battery management computer. The charge, whatever is currently is, is distributed across all the cells in the battery, and at any given time, the battery management computer is in "HV" mode (use the ICE to preserve the overall current state of charge within a narrow range), or "EV" mode (feel free to drain the battery). I don't think particular cells are assigned "EV" or "HV" roles. It's just that when the SOC gets below a certain threshold, the system will only use "HV" mode.

    It's only useless if you believe yourself to be incapable of understanding the triggers programmed into the PiP or if you believe it's impossible to isolate the variables through experimentation.

    70.5 mpg is good if you're used to 30 mpg in a regular car or 54 mpg in a standard Prius, but my 45-mile daily commute
    can average 90 mpg if I'm really careful and that's without the ability to charge at work. Understanding the trigger points and pushing the car to just under the limits does pay off in terms of mileage.

    have you had success with neutral? out of curiosity, how much did you mileage improve as a result?
     
  19. . Neutral does nothing, I used to use it to save charge or to increase speed on a downhill, on my 2005. On the PIP it has no effect, it detracts rather than adds so your mileage is worse, of course no regen.

    i think you're right andy, the only benefit is no regen on hills that are starting your ice because the bat is full.
