Went down to Hollywood Toyota yesterday and found exactly what I was looking for. I was amazed at how I had finally found this Prius. 2010 Prius five with advance tech package. Anyways I start talking to the salesman whom has asked how much I want to pay for it. Mal - he's in charge of the internet dept. Anyways his boss (Joe) is giving me prices I am giving him prices after checking various websites, carfax etc. So it comes down to buying it and someone else is now interested in the car. So everything stops on my end. They say well now that someone else wants the car everything is different they tell me. They then firm up on the price and tell me that it will be "the interenet sales price plus over 10% for fees and tax. So grand total of 30k for a used 2010 Prius Five tech package. Is this how much they normally cost? Not sure if it is, cause they seems like my price was fair until the other person walked in. I just walked out, it was a waste of time.
good for you for walking away. that's the only way to handle these guys. how much was your price before the second buyer came along?
I was offering 25kotd we were still talking a bit tho. Maybe ending up more or less in that ball park.
is that a good price to offer? or less or more? a new one is about the same price but doesn't have all the options... was thinking about this alot
A new Five-AT is not going to be anywhere close to $25000 OTD. With 7% sales tax in December 2009 my V-AT was about $35500 OTD. Every used car is different. A fair price is what a willing seller accepts from a willing buyer. Since they were talking your offer was at least in the ballpark. When the 2nd buyer appeared they believed they could either get more out of the other guy or get you two into a bidding war. If you want the car & it is still on the lot remind them that your offer still stands. Don't let emotion & ego color the deal. It's just business but work everything out & confirm in an e-mail before returning to the lot..
I have a white 2010 with ADP that I was just getting ready to trade in. I am in LA if you want to check it out, let me know
Update- So I went ahead and called again after reviewing some yelp reviews. I talked to Steve Stein and Rocio Bachmann, what a difference. Over the phone without even walking in I had talked to Steve about the best he could do. He told me that the best he can do is 26,250. The car also has some other packages on it and such - long story short I was pretty happy about this esp. cause he also gave me 2.9% on it (wasn't certified) and my credit wasn't perfect. Anyways I highly recommend these members. It was funny walking into the dealer again, no pressure due to the price already talked about. Same people came up and I told them I didn't want to have anything to do with them. Steve is from another team so he gave me his calmest nicest person to work with. Rocio went out of her way to help. I needed to travel to West LA in traffic and she said well, we can take your car. Two hours later due to traffic went got back. That's service. Anyways I love the car, the road noise is a bit loud, maybe the shocks or something? And it pulls a bit to the right. So I'll have that looked at tomorrow. Other then that IT'S AWESOME I've very happy. I think I'll put a sunroof on it this weekend. I'll take photos tomorrow.
Since the car is pulling the least you'll need is an alignment. The road noise is due to the tires. How much tread is left? Even wear? If you want less noise you'll take a hit on fuel economy. Be careful what you ask for.
Yep they are taking care of both, I went in and asked about it. This is after I took it to a shop I work with. They found that two rims were bent. So Steve felt really bad, cause it's been one thing after another with me. So he asked if I wanted the original rims or if i wanted I could pick out any other after market (brand new) momo rims. I of picked the latter. That was yesterday so he gave me a prius to drive around during that time. He also again said he was sorry. They are going to check the alignment. It seems like a lot of trouble and I feel a bit peeved, but it's in my best interest. Steve is being great so I'm content.
