I looked into getting remote start for my PIP. It already has the remote A/C since I have the advance. But, looking for something for heat in the winter time. I noticed that you cannot start the car while the charging cable is plugged in. So, I assume even with a remote start you are not able to start the car and warm it up?
AFAIK, the PIP doesn't have an electric heater so it would require the ICE to start to pre-warm the car. Remote A/C start is for the summer and won't start the ICE (well maybe if the HV battery is empty).
The ICE would have to run to get the heater going. But, the car cannot start with the charger cable plugged in...even if I wanted to the ICE to run to heat up the car. I wonder if there is a way around this to get the ICE going to warm up the car with it plugged in. I assume for safety reasons so you don't drive off with the car still plugged in.
Yeah, I read "getting" as meaning "getting it to start" not purchasing. I've personally installed a couple of remote starts in non-hybrids and learned you need all sorts of relays, bypasses, special harnesses, etc when dealing with more advanced features. I'd suggest the OP ask a professional, high end installer.
I was like "what?" LOL Off to change the typo.... Further thoughts, my understanding is the J1772 plug has one pin specifically for telling the car it's plugged in. The installer would definitely need to bypass that; similar to fooling the clutch lock out in a manual transmission installation.
That pin calls a handshake for the "charger" to start it's operation, hence the start-up in-mobilizer.
