I'm currently shopping around for a new Prius. I'm a first time Prius buyer. Is there any difference in the 2012 vs the 2013 Prius 3 standard equipment wise? I'm looking at a 25,000 price for a 2012 Prius 3 with sunroof, and I'm wondering if it's worth trying to find a 2013. (I'd imagine I would pay a bit more for a 2013)
Nothing has changed equipment wise from 2012-2013. It depends on how long you plan on keeping your car. If you drive it till the wheels fall you will do better with the 2012 since resale value plays a small part. If you plan on selling it in 3-5 years I would go with the 2013. There aren't any incentives for the 2012 as in cash back, so the 2013 won't cost that much more. Just do more shopping via emailing dealers and having them bid against each other.
You might want to look at the plug-in since you are in MA where there is a $4,000 rebate and 0% finance rate on 2012 models. The base is equipped the same as the 3 with some more functions like heated seats. You can get it cheaper than a 3 after all the rebates, finance rate, and tax credits. But, if you want to get the sunroof you will have to go with a regular Prius.
Where are you seeing $4,000? I've found the $3,500 for the base, and $4,500 for the Advanced. Just want to make sure I leave no stone unturned.
I ended up getting a 2012 Prius 3 with the solar roof, as insurance was less than the exact same 2013 would have been (that and you can save a few grand).
I meant MD. I always get those 2 mixed up for some reason. But, looking at the incentives they haven't updated MD yet. But, MA is still showing $3,500. You might want to take a look at this thread for pricing: Price Paid on PIP? | PriusChat
Ended up with a 2013 from a different dealership. They beat the other dealers price, and met the 1.9 financing I had from my credit union
Mike, I have a 2012 with solar sunroof.....You will be pleased with the sun roof and how the solar will vent the vehicle on the hot days....Good luck!
