Picture this - a very snowy evening in New England... decided to let the inner child have some fun and built a snowman... then my brother said "We need to go for a walk to look at the Christmas lights on the road." Walked a mile and a half in heavy snow... no cars on the road at all. Turned to head home... and car lights were approaching. From the sound of the vehicle my brother and I looked at each other as the car passed and we said in unison, "A Prius!" From what I could see, with three inches of heavy wet snow on the ground, it handled well. Never to be too old to enjoy a snowy evening.
I remember a couple of winters ago, one Sunday we were heading to church and it had snowed hard the night before. Driving out of the culdesac, snow was coming up and flowing over the hood of my car... I was impressed but in no way did I stop at the stop sign. It snowed like 8-10" in 24 hours, nice and fluffy.
I woke up to 8 inches of snow on the 26th, and cleared the snow off the windows in the morning as no cars had made into the motel we were staying at. At 1 PM a truck came by applying salt to the hill we were on, and behind him were cars with the employees for the motel. We were the first car out. We 'flattened' a lot of snow that fit comfortably under the truck.
Enjoy! I'm glad we only had a dusting overnight which made clearing it quite easy. I'll take a mug of coffee to my girlfriend at work and head to church.
Or a good movie (or football!) - did horse chores, shoveled a foot of snow off my truck in prep for moving it when the plow arrives to plow us out - may have to go out and hike this afternoon or ride as being inside for too long is not a good thing! I might have to call my son in West Hollywood - temps in LA were 37 and I want to hear him whining about how "cold" it is. In a day and a half I am off to participate in a "Penguin Plunge" to benefit a local homeless shelter... and that means swimming in the ocean on New Year's Day. It will rock my son's perspective on what cold really is when he sees the pictures. Enjoy your day!
Maybe 6 to 8 this morning to add to previous falls. This week's forecast is cold, dry and frequently clear so there shouldn't be much icing on the roads and there'll be a little melting close to building and main roads. Not too bad for the turn of the year.
Before I left for the dealer it was clear. Over the 4 hours I was there it snowed then rained so it all disappeared. I would like to thank all of you for taking the rest of it.
Well technically that is just South Central Alaska but yeah, currently 41 at 8:00am... pretty unheard of this time of year.
Heat wave compared to the 30, wind and snow on the ground here... my Prius has not been out of the garage since Friday - the truck got to play in the snow and ice here today, got dirty and had some fun. Not sure I would have made it up to the end of the drive in the Prius with the ice we have and did not feel like having to push it back into the garage when it started to complain about the conditions I was forcing it to endure outside the warm garage. I can play the electric slide another time.
I don't miss lake effect snowstorms or the perpetually grey weather they cause from November to April. My friend is in Webster, NY and had to shovel over 2 feet of snow off her roof, her hubby's Suburban got stuck and they needed a huge front end loader to move the snow.
