"Get ready for change, because the 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid will be a part of the Honda lineup in early 2013."

The 2014 Accord Plug-In has earned the highest EPA combined MPGe rating[1] in its class (115 MPGe). When the Accord Plug-In's low battery charge indicator comes on, you can plug into a 120-volt outlet[2], and you'll be fully charged in only three hours. And if you use a 240-volt charger, you can charge up in less than one hour.

"The 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid will have three different driving operations: all-electric EV drive, gasoline-electric Hybrid Drive and direct-engine drive. The two-motor hybrid system allows the powertrain to move seamlessly between the three operations so drivers can customize their commute and maximize the efficiency of their drive."

No kidding. No styling. 10-15 EV mode? Yesterday's car tomorrow, Honda late to the party with last year's model.

Fusion Hybrid plug in for me, later this year.

The Kia and Hyundai hybrids look good and the Fusion keeps up with them. I'd bet Toyota will have a sharper looking Camry plug in for 2014.

    Bumporama...

Correct me if wrong, but won't this Accord Plug-in hybrid be the first 'midsize' sedan plug-in? Can we get some love for this car? Here in the US, this format of car, 4 doors with a trunk is always among the top sellers.

Notice how the tab and email sign up box says 'Accord hybrid' also. Sounds to me like they are planning to introduce their first full non-plugin hybrid also. Sounds good to me!

I think the 2013 Accord styling will work very well for this car.

This is interesting. Taken from this article -

"Most interesting, though, is HV Charge mode, which will actually use gasoline to charge the battery. As far was we know, the Accord is the only plug-in vehicle that will use gasoline to recharge the pack. Normal hybrids, of course, all do this, but they're not designed to ever get any electricity from an external power grid. Other plug-ins don't allow the generator to increase the battery's SOC, because they just use electrons that the car gets from the wall. As we said, it's all kind of confusing, but also very cool to have this level of control over what your plug-in hybrid is doing."

I think the Fusion Energi is the first.

o_ONot sure what the article is trying to say here. Once out of EV mode, other plug ins operate like a standard hybrid, and thus do recharge the pack with gasoline. That's one of the hybrid fuel saving tactics. Run the engine at an efficient power band. Power in excess of what is needed at the moment is stored in the battery.

Can the Accord PHV completely charge up the pack using gasoline? If so, why? The point of using wall electrons is to displace the use of gasoline. That electricity can be made more efficiently and/or cleaner than what a car ICE can do. Maybe doing so can get an users overall gas mpg up. Some Volt owners were doing that with mountain mode games. Which is an example of a current plug in hybrid already charging up the battery with gasoline.

Accord Plug-in forum. Same look as mynissanleaf

Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid Forum - Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid Forum for the Accord Plug-in Hybrid Car

44.5 mpg on a recent trip with no plugging in, preconditioning (air conditioning) using the battery a few times, about 1700 miles at prevailing freeway speeds (with a couple small mountain crossings), about 100 miles city driving, using EV in the city and recharging with HV Charge on the freeway. You could likely do better if you tried.

I don't know that using HV Charge that way -- to charge the battery for city use without plugging in -- was the most efficient thing. It just made the city driving smoother and quieter to have the engine off, and made it possible to run the air conditioning from the battery before getting in the car when the weather was somewhat hot & humid.
