Any particular brand of gas for your PiP?

Buy gas at a busy station, it will spend so much time in your tank, you want the fresh stuff.

 

or wait till the tanker shows up

 

Don't have a PIP. That aside, I like Chevron: partially just think it's a good brand (might be irrational), and also because they're more-or-less the lone hold out in our area still offering free air.

 

In California, if gas stations provide air, they must provide it free to paying customers. Apparently this not the case in Canada (or other U.S. states, for that matter).

 

Cheapest gas closest on my way to wherever I am going. Never made a lick of a difference which brand I used. Seat of the pants feel and fuel economy calculations come up empty. Some coworkers, friends, family swear they have engine trouble using off brand stations.

I only have one criteria for gas. It has to be on my way, meaning I don't have to drive significantly out of my way to get to it. There's no point in driving to a cheaper gas station if you burn up the savings while going there instead of the nearby one. I normally frequent the Valero station on my way to work.

We live within a one mile radius of three indies, and their prices are always lower than the 'branded' gas stations by anywhere from 5-10¢ per gallon. Realistically, however, the 'branded' stations do add value to their product by some extra cleaning additives that the indies don't have. So then the question is whether I think the extra additives are worth the extra 70-90¢ per fill-up. I do think they're worth something, but not every fill-up. The majority of my fills are at the less expensive gas stations, but I don't lose any sleep if I spend an extra dollar at a 'more expensive' station.

 

While I don't completely agree with this logic, some people will tell you to avoid gas right after a tanker fills the tanks as the fill allegedly stirs up the alleged debris in the bottom of the tank. Honestly though unless you fill at 3:00 AM I doubt it’s a concern as I swear I have never seen a tanker filling during business hours...

and yeah, domestic company or not, they drill all over the place, and you can bet that the country of the oilfield gets its share of the profits of the crude coming out of it.

 

I work near the Costco in Fountain Valley and the tanker ALWAYS comes during lunch time.. you know, when the line there is probably the longest? ..

When I used to get gas once a week, it was always Costco (in the mornings to avoid long lines). But now that I rarely get gas, I almost enjoy getting gas at the "expensive" gas stations.. for one thing, they're usually less crowded.

would there not be a problem when a lot more poeple start to fillup with US made petrol?

So of that list in CA,
-flying J I've only seen on I-5 in the Central Valley
-Valero and Arco I see regularly
-Sunoco I've seen maybe twice
-the others don't exist at all
Note a huge choice! I have a Valero two blocks from my house which is like 20¢ more than anything else I've seen, and Arco overcharges you for using a credit card.
But maybe it's time to look at their prices again.

Not everyone will do it but I only have control over where my money would go. US oil production is going up also. We only import 41% down from 60% 7 years ago.

 

Arco is always the best choice around me in Mission Viejo next to CostCo. Arco charges 45 cents to use a CC. so figuring 10 gallon fill thats 4.5 cents extra per gallon. Like I said in my previous post if I see Arco is 5 cents under CostCo I get Arco. Usually they are dead nuts even.

My question about the stats though is those companies do not import oil... Does that just mean they purchase oil from within the US that was likely imported by a broker or a reserve?

I have to admit since getting the PiP; I no joke buy more gallons of milk from the Gas station then I buy Gallons of Gas... Heh, pretty funny now that I think about it.
