Our subscription ended in August and we have given some thought to re-start it on our 2012 Prius v Five if a deal can be had. Are there any deals out there on re-starting XM Radio service?

Yes call the Cancellation Department and let them know that you are interested in renewing but not at the full price. They should offer you several different deals.

But be aware that no matter what deal they give you, the price jumps right back to full retail at the end of the term, without any notification. Read the fine print in the contract.

As it is, we are not customers, so would Cancellations be the right POC?

After my 3 month trial was over, I let it lapse. Then I called and was able to make a deal for about $27 for 6 months. The one caveat is that it goes to the regular price then. That 6 months will be up around 12/21, at which time I will call to cancel and negotiate a new deal.

Do some research on google and you will see what deals people are negotiating. I will start the process next week in preparation.

It is important to call to cancel/get-good-deal before current deal expires and you auto renew at top dollar. It is more work to cancel current plan and set up a new account to get new less expensive plan. Not all service people will do it (if you need to keep calling if they don't).

Note; This only applies when your current deal ends with auto renew, not free 3 month trial.

I just got off the phone with SiriusXM. I was told to call back on 12/21 when my current 6 month deal ended. Well, I got in the car today and it was deactivated. So, as per the screen, I called them at 800 643-2112. After proving who I was and them linking me to my account, I told them that I wanted the same deal as last time, otherwise I would walk. Preemptive strike!

The sales person didn't play around and agreed. He did say that at the end of 6 months it would automatically renew at the higher plan rate. He then told me that I would have to call 866 635-2349 to cancel. I told him that that's what I thought I had, but obviously it deactivated automatically. He said you must have been on the "Future Deactivation Plan." I told him that's exactly what I want to be on again. So, after trying to upsell me on a couple of other things, I got my 6 months for $27.44 including taxes and fees.

They have to send a reactivation signal at a specified (by me) time in order to do this. If for some reason it doesn't work, they told me to go to siriusxm.com/refresh or call 855 697-3373 to resend signal. I don't imagine that there will be a problem reactivating but you never know!

Shipping birds into space isn't cheap. If you like the service pay for it and stop scamming the system.

Scamming the system is getting something that you shouldn't for whatever price. I made them an offer and they accepted it. End of story!

I fail to see a scam there. Their marginal cost of a subscriber is darn near zero, plus the royalties, which the agreed price exceeds. Once committed, each bird is a sunk cost.

    Reactivating Cont'd:

Well, I made sure I was on the open highway at 5 pm when they were supposed to send my reactivation signal. You have to have a clear view of the sky. I didn't work. Maybe they couldn't hit a moving target! :)

So, about 5:10 pm I pulled into a parking lot and gave them a call. They were able to get me up and running in a few minutes. The only negative customer experience was that their voice recognition system wasn't too good. I kept having to repeat myself and it finally defaulted to a CSR.

On June 21st I will rinse and repeat!

Just FYI - you can go to their website and create an account. From your account you can request your own signal resend without having to call.

I know, they had given me the site siriusxm.com/refresh. But I figured I'd give them a call on my way home.

Its called the free market. XM Sirius is free to take the customers offer or leave it. The only "scam" I see is XM raising the price after 6 months without notification and without an easy cancellation option.

I've used XM on and off for 10 years now and their service has programming has gotten much worse. Their news stations are more than 50% advertising and are worthless. With competition for streaming music and radio news, XM must lower their prices to compete or die in the free market. Their music quality and choice is far, far inferior to $10/month streaming services, and can't compete with free streaming news stations.
