So Cal folks please chime in on your winter EV Range

    When I first fire up the car in the morning, the display shows 13.9 or 14.0 EV miles. It's been slowly creeping upwards from the factory default as I keep running it about 18 miles in the morning before running out of juice.

    The thread loses value when "winter" for the perspective of the location being discussed isn't stated.

    Here in Minnesota, it means temperatures with the daily high below freezing. For Southern California, I truly don't have a clue. Would someone please clarify... evening lows and daily highs, please.

    Also, remember the chemistry of lithium causes a significant increase in resistence when sub-freezing temperatures. So, you've got that working against some owners, not just the reduction of capacity alone.

    The westside of L.A. usually has lows in the low 50's and highs in the high 60's(on cold days). Further away from the cost line in the valleys it can be 10 degrees colder at night and 10 degrees hotter during the day.

    I'm the odd one out here; my EV estimated range only seems to change based on whether I have done any freeway driving (it goes up) or if it's all in-town driving (it drops, but only a small amount.) I have been between 14.4 and 15.2 pretty regularly over the last couple of weeks, not really much variation from the summer time. My car is garaged, and I usually leave in the six o'clock hour to meet my friends for coffee. At that time of the morning, the temp shown in the car is usually in the fifties. I use the "finish" charging timer set for 6 am, and in the past it has been done by about 5:20, but I haven't checked that lately. My garage temp, according to the dash readout is around 63 degrees.

    Put it this way: If the low temperature is even forecast to drop below 32°F anywhere in the Los Angeles metro area on a given night, it becomes a major news phenomenon. They'll send reporters out "to the scene" to beam back pictures of themselves standing in front of the camera wearing jackets, scarves, and beanies. The network will run stories about when was the last time snow fell in the Los Angeles area. If a snowflake touches a highway (whether it melts or not) in Southern California, they close down the whole highway. After living in Colorado for a few years and having grown accustomed to -20°F and unplowed streets where I had to push through bumper-deep drifts, I found all of this particularly frustrating upon my return.

    Even in snow-prone areas like the Sierras, they don't salt the roads in California. If plows and sand are not sufficient, they just close the roads. But recall that the snow areas in California are not the metro areas, which are on the coast. It simply is not worth having snow removal equipment when you get two inches of snow every ten years.

    I just like how they do it in Colorado, which is "if you think you can make it, you can drive on it." They don't close anything except for when it becomes impossible to pass (like 5 feet deep). Different people have different tolerances for adverse weather. I'm fine driving in a foot or 18 inches of snow on the highway.

    Socal owner here, purchased in mid-Oct this year.

    Tire pressure set at 41 psi all around. The EV range is the same from Oct to now, reads about 11.6-11.8 miles every morning. Morning temps have dropped from around 65 F to 40 F lately, no noticeable decrease in estimated EV range (and I'm on the same route to and from work every day).

    I finish the full charge at night before going to bed.
