If Honda's 2000 W generator specs are to be believed, you can generate 3 kWh using 0.55 gallons of fuel. That full charge might get you 10 - 15 miles, or 18 - 27 MPG. Not good.

 

We should consider the environment more, man, global warming is so appalling, that is the reason for plug-in models. I suggest buying a nuclear plant and install it in office, this is the way to go.

 

A 1.5 kW PV array shouldn't cost too much, all things considered. As long as you're parked for three hours during peak irradiance (10 am - 2 pm) you should get a full charge.

 

Or get one of these setups and pay some landscapers to charge up the PiP . Job Creation!

What sort of panel is that, how big? I seriously doubt it's possible to charge a PIP with any sort of portable solar panel.

 

It's about 6 large panels like you'd install on a roof. The panels and inverter will cost a few thousand dollars at a minimum.

 

Gets me to thinking about putting up a little 2-panel system just so I can net 0 kWh charging the PiP.

Probably close to $3000. It's not worth it from a financial perspective.

 

This is the direction to go, get your fellow workers and Supervision excited about the car. Mgt will probably gladly go along with installing a outlet, a chargepoint. You do the research for them.

Yep, generator, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, etc. are horrible polluters compared to currently sold fossil fuel burning cars, esp. a PZEV rated car like the Prius and PiP.

 

They may have expired, but there were federal tax rebates for installing a charger.

Easily 3 grand just for the panels. Figure another couple of grand for a set of batteries, charge controller, and inverter.

 

yeah, i mean, consider that a single charge costs less than $1 (if it costs more, you're better off just filling with gas anyway). Even at $1, you're looking at thousands of charges before payback. At 250 working days/year, even at $3k cost for panels, you're looking at a 12-year payback period…!

 

Realistically the OP is out of luck with his charging problem.

How about a second EV battery that could be removed and taken into the office and recharged?

Bisco lives in the land of gloom ie Boston winter. Would need way more panels and stuff than those of you in the land of sunshine. and there is a concurrent solar thread so I'll leave it at that.

To provide just the electricity for two charge stations at a new construction fast food pad site is est $3,000. 225 ft. minimum one way dedicated circuits trenched in in their own conduit plus disconnects, breakers ect. Amperage and voltage drop require the use much larger gauge cooper ie $$$. If we ever get one built I'll write it up.
