I saw online that a man named Irv Gordon is about to try a 1960's Volvo p 1600 almost 3 million miles. He holds the world record. There are lot's of stories I've read online about American trucks going 1,000,000 miles. I think a couple diesel MB cars have done it too. Any Toyota ever reached that mark? DO you think the Prius could do it?

What is the highest mileage Prius of any generation currently going?

Thanks, I'm new here on the site. I bought a 2012 Prius model 2 in July. Currently have about 4,000 miles.

no question. don't think for a minute that those other cars haven't had plenty of repairs along the way.

Did you buy yours at Rudy Luther's? That's where I bought mine. There are plenty of Prius over 300k miles. Don't know how long they will go.

Ahh, maybe best to stay out there until April when the road salt is gone. The roads got salted heavily a couple days ago :( Ended my fall driving season real quick.

Maybe that's a good thing. I wonder though if it will be ok after sitting that long? Does the battery have issues?

The High Voltage battery will be fine. The 14v battery will get my battery maintainer connected in a few days :)

It was fun working with them on my car. I ordered it thru them. Nobody there had seen a Prius like mine before. Jodi got the sale. Lowest price in the Twin Cities :) My wife is going to order her Prius thru them maybe next summer.

Oh yea. I have driven rental Prius in the winter all over the country. They handle ice & snow excellent. There is so much road salt up here that you won't get to drive on a slippery road very much. The biggest issue will be dealing with a crazy amount of rock salt on the pavement which is slippery all by itself. Just take it easy and you'll figure it out in a couple days. Watch for idiots around you though. This is one of the worst Cities in the US to drive in. People are just plain rude sometimes. It's a Prius, they are gonna cut you off nearly every day.

I can always go sit in it in the garage and watch a movie :) My son & I did that the first day we brought it home. Like a theater with a 7" screen. I might do some car audio work in it this winter so that will help pass the time too.

Hmm, "do you think a Prius can go 1,000,000 miles". That's a little far for one tank of fuel. I think you'd have to refill at least once. ;)

There is a GII taxi in British Columbia that is approaching 1/2 million miles last I heard. I doubt they will keep it much longer though. It's all about dollars with a taxi. Probably too expensive to maintain when it gets that many miles on it. Though to be correct, that taxi has no miles on it, just kilometres. ;)

There are two expensive parts that can fail at high mileage, the HSD "transmission" and the hybrid battery. Each will cost in the $3000 to $5000 range to replace. It costs roughly $25,000 to replace the car. You do the math.

Irv brings his car to my brother in-law's shop for service- he's had many, many, many parts replaced (and full paint jobs) over the years.
If that 60's tech Volvo can do it- there's no reason the Prius can't...

Both can be repaired for significantly lower cost.
    • HV battery - A ReInVolt reconditioned battery for about $2200 installed or a low mileage salvaged battery installed for about $1500.
The HV battery has an expected life of about 250k miles (mine failed at 195k miles). Many last longer but heat and mountains take their toll. This is between 1 to 2 cents per mile and should be considered a consumable like tires or brakes.
    • Transmission (includes the two MGs) - A salvage unit can installed for about $2000
If you regularly drain and refill the Type WS ATF (60k mile intervals with an earlier first drain/refill), the tranny should last a long time.
Neither of these should cause more concern in our Prii than failures that occur in other cars.
