Just got a 2013 Prius Pkg 3!

welcome and congrats! you can take the long trip, just try to vary your speed up and down a few miles an hour. don't use cruise. i think the break in is 500 miles. and try to be gentle on the brakes, although, with regen, you need to hit them hard enough to activate the calipers. i change the oil at 5-10,000, whatever the manual states. it's a personal choice and depends partially on how long you keep the car. keep in mind the ice isn't running the whole time so mileage is different than on a non hybrid. all the best! yours is the first '13 i've heard of.

Per the break in time, since the engines after assemblied in the factory, it was running for some time. I don't know the exact time. That will be the majority of the break in. Not like before,the new engine will run for a very short time just to make sure it was OK and then installed into the waiting car in the production line. As a result, after you've drove it for one to two weeks the enging break in will have done. That's why some owners change the engine oil and the oil filter when it reached 1000 miles. This is just for your reference. You can follow the rule to change oil at 5000 miles. During your first long journey,try not to race the engine,drive gently in a normal way will be OK.

 

I think it is a good deal. I paid $24,000 on my 2012 Prius 3 last week with no solar roof. Didn't have to pay much tax because of my trade. However, $1850 is a lot of money for extended warranty. I talked to Jerry Johnson at Midwest Toyota in Hutchinson, KS last week and he offered me 7 year/100k for $999. I am still thinking about buying extended warranty. I might pull a trigger this week. I recommend you call your Toyota deal to cancel your extended warranty and get it from one of the dealers in the link I posted above.

 

yes he was lying ... that is the most lucrative thing they sell ... but you can cancel within 30 days .. it is a good tactic to agree make him happy giving you a little better deal they make about $1000 on this ... Read the contract. Then next day call toyota and cancel it and ask for a REFUND CHECK NOT credit on the loan!!! free 0% money !!!! and you just stick it to the finance manager ...

I made this mistake at my first buy ... but I still had partial refund at trade in time.

Anyone knows if partial refund possible on toyota care contract (I know it was a mistake but at the time 2009 with 5k oil changes made some sense) I had 2 more year but my car was totaled ... I will read the contract but if someone already had this experience it would be helpful.

 

I just ordered a 2013 Prius 3 today. I planned on getting an end-of-model-year 2012, but thought the deal was pretty reasonable for a newer model year--it includes taking my low-mileage 2010 Prius 2 in trade plus $8,700 out the door. Does this seem like a good deal to you all? This was a MUCH better deal than I was able to get at the three other dealerships I approached in Michigan. Oh yes, while I struggled a bit this time around trying to decide between Sea Glass Pearl and Barcelona Red, I decided on the latter. This will be my third Prius, and they have all been this color

I am glad that you were able to save some $$. I am in the same boat as you are. I had extended warranty on my Camry and Highlander and never needed to use them. I am leaning towards not buying extended warranty for my Prius. I have 3 years / 36000 miles to decide this, so no rush. From what I have seen and read online, Prius is as much reliable as any other Toyota.

 

not only that a WHOLE bunch of not really covered in the "extended" warranty NOT the same warranty what comes with the car. AND critical element are covered LONGER in most state than 7 years !!!! If you put that money in saving and pay if you need to you are better off.

Sorry--we were originally told $18K for our trade-in for a 2012 Prius 3 OTD, plus $8600. But then we negotiated our trade-in plus the $8,700 for a 2013. Two other dealerships offered $16K for our car, plus more cash over and above. Would love to know your thoughts.

I would advise against purchasing any extended warranty for a Prius, particular with its 67% above-average reliability compared to the average 2013 model year vehicle. Based on Consumer Reports' survey data, I concluded that any "extended warranty" for the Prius may as well be labelled as "additional dealer profit".

 

I bought a Prius wagon this weekend. By the time I was ushered into the finance office my patience was about fried, so I walked in and said "I am going to do you a favor, and save you some time. Do not try and sell me a warranty." The finance guy surprised me by immediately saying "I was not even going to try. I can see you know the ropes." I doubt he was talking about my negotiating skills, so he problably relied on knowing this was not my first Prius purchase, and I was paying cash.

He was quick, and we had a nice chat along the way.

 

Same happened to me on Wednesday ... I told the sales guy first the only thing he needs to do to show me the available colours. And then get to the price I got almost what I wanted ... but my prius was lost to Sandy so I could not shop around for days... I probably could have get another 1k lower .

Then financing was the same I got .25% less then I would accept. Is 3.25% seems OK for 60 months ??

 

When I purchased the 2012 Prius in NC in October, the dealership offered the following terms:

• 0% / 36 months, with a $750 added to the OTD price due to a dealer incentive for cash payment
• 0.9% ARP / 48 months at no additional charge
• 1.9% ARP / 60 months at no additional charge

For a 2012 Prius, the 3.25% ARP does not seem competitive. In fact, Southeast Toyota is offering 0% for 36 and 48 months, and 0.9% for 60 months at this time.
For a 2013 Prius, 3.25% ARP seems ok. Though I would recommend shopping around for rates, particularly with credit unions.
Keep in mind that you will always end up paying less if you can afford to pay cash. I saved $750 due to a hidden dealer cash incentive for paying cash.
