My EV Driving ratio

So far, I have 27% on EV and 73% on HV. I started charging after about 158 miles on odometer with 1% EV and 99% HV. So, my EV ratio is raising. I will continue to update this thread with updates.

Gasoline Efficiency

264 miles divided by 4 gallons = 66 MPG

Electricity Efficiency

23 kWh (x 1.15 for charging loss) divided by 102 miles (times 100) = 25.9 kWh/100 miles

Overall Efficiency

4 gallons + 0.785 gallon equiv = 4.785 gallon equiv. 366 total miles / 4.785 gallon equiv = 76.5 MPGe.

 

They are what car reported with numbers rounded so, accuracy will increase with more miles.

kWh does not include the charging loss so I just added 15%. Thanks!

 

The key number is, 23 kWh of electricy was used to save 1.9 gallons of gas.

 

102 electric miles / 1.9 gallons saved = 53.7 MPG -- I must be getting.

264 gas miles / 53.7 MPG = 4.92 gallons consumed.

It is possible that the display is truncating to 4 and it is about to roll to 5.

 

I am one of those lucky ones that can telecommute. I no longer have the 85 miles round trip commute that I used to do with my 2006 Prius with 164,000 miles.

I only charge at home but I can do multiple "top offs". Majority of my trips are within 3 miles radius. That include dropping off / picking up wife at the subway and for our chore (supermarket, hair cut, eat out, movies, post office, malls, etc).

The car reports an average speed of 22 mph. The true average should be higher than that since I don't know how long it sat at the dealer, turned on (0 mph).

When I need to go longer distance, I use EV mode for city traffic and HV mode on the highway. Since my home and destinations are close to the highways, I end up using the extra EV miles at highway speed. That's why my electricity consumption is higher than I would like but I am learning and using those EV miles more wisely on the highway. My last trip yielded 17 EV miles.

 

I got Torque and custom PIDs loaded for PiP. I don't have a good place or equipment to mount it in the car yet, so I have not been using it much. I am still getting used to the car before taking a deeper dive.

In the EV mode, MID displays the instantaneous EV power bar. Since the battery can supply to up 50 hp (38 kW), I can judge how much power I am using.

 

Just went out for lunch. Round trip = 0.8 miles.

EV ratio raised to 28% so HV is at 72% now.

 

Short trips like that kills MPG in my 2006 Prius. Now, they are increasing my EV ratio.

I'll be happy if I can put 1/3 of my miles on EV. EPA estimate 29% so if I can get 33% or higher, I'll be happy.

 

I checked when the HV mile was at 275 and it said 5 gallons so that backward calculation appears to be correct.

120 EV miles / 2.2 gallons saved = 54.5 MPG

54.5 MPG * 5 gallons = 273 miles

Anyway, my EV ratio is now 29% -- what EPA predicted. Since I have mostly short trips than normal, I will surely go over that.

 

You are still getting 50 MPG on gas. That's right inline with EPA figure.

102 kWh + 15% / 435 EV miles (times 100) = 27 kWh / 100 miles. You are beating the EPA estimate.

68% EV ratio? WOW.

Yea, pump up the tire pressure. Mine is at the recommended 35 psi.
