Alarm went off while driving tonight

So what happened? If you tried to program the car to unlock all doors with the smartkey? I bought prius 3 and it came with this note stating that if I want to do that I need to bring it back to the dealer otherwise it might cut the starter and disable the car. So if I did reprogram to unlock all doors, what will happen? It doesn't make sense to buy a car with features that got turned off by an aftermarket alarm that the buyer wasn't aware of, until the money is paid and they said you can't get your money back, you can't deactivate the alarm once it's activated. Wth.

 

Where did you get this "rolling code" design information from? There's no website(real), there's hardly any info about this thing on the web. Just need some solid reference.

 

The rolling code feature was written down on a fact sheet given to me by the dealership. Basically, they said it is not "scannable" so a would be high-tech car thief could not set up a receiver near you and get the SKS factory code and later duplicate that code to hiest your Prius.

As for your other question - I tried repeatedly to get my KARR system to work so that one click would open all doors, unsuccessfully. I needed the dealer to reset it back to "two clicks". Even the KARR rep could not give me a good answer on my questions about changing how the fob works. Had I realized all of this at the time of the purchase, I would have asked the dealer to remove the extra system at that time, but they made it sound like if they did that, there'd be no security system at all - deceptive sales tactic, IMO.

I don't know for sure, but the cheapest garage opener at Home Depot has rolling code. It is pretty easy to implement. If the Prius does not, it would seem to be a huge over sight.

I would take what the dealer tells you to sell an added on alarm, with a huge grain of salt.

I don't know if that's an obvious thing in our prius doing just one click unlock all.

 

You're welcome To your link, yes, any Prius without a KARR system can easily be modified so one click opens all doors. However with a KARR system, it's just not compatible.

Jonny: If I had it to do over again, I would have declined the KARR system. Funny thing is, KARR also makes a system called TRACK that will allow you to see via GPS signal where your car is on a map using any computer. Really!?? That is bad. They tried to sell us an alarm that they didn't even show us what it takes away from us. It's not what we bargained for, with that, we can sue them. Unless they showed me ahead of time saying, oh yeah by the way if you have this installed, you can't set unlock all with fob. And then now they are saying, no, you can't do that, do what you might say, I asked the salesman if I can programmed it to use smartkey to unlock both sides, not just driver side and he said, no, you have to have the key in your pocket to unlock passenger side, and even that information was wrong. We can press the 5sec thing to unlock all/driversideonly/entryonly, and that is fine. But fob wise now I found out it can't be done. I'm not happy now. They came up with these balony saying, "You don't want to unlock all, what if someone chase you or attack you from the otherside of the door." I'm like, well, that's not the point, if the feature is available and I'm paying for it, why am I buying prius3? If I can't open from passenger side, why not just buy prius2. or 1. But it was freaking too late since I signed that crap agreed on the price and paid and the salesperson was daring enough to say, "Hey, I'm just selling the car, go talk to the finance guy." Then when I arrived, no one was in the finance office. Only the "manager and receptionists". And the sales punk had a day off right after I bought my car.

Locate the car on it using any computer? I'm not sure if I want people to know where I am. Will Smith... what was that movie called, clear and present danger?, then the Eagle eye. I wonder if government have something to do with that. Talking about insurance, the other end is AIG, and what's that other end? Goldmansachs, all gangsters.

I would think only you and ones you trust could see where the car is. Parents might like it too...that is, if they let a teenage driver have the car for the evening.

 

I don't have it turned on, but the Toyota Safety Connect system does the same thing. It has its own GPS and cellular transceiver so the vehicle can be tracked, if stolen.
