The gas meter starts to blink when your on your last "block" of gas. I haven't had my Prius for long so here's my question.

How many miles will I have to get to a gas station with that last block?

Wow so you guys are saying 83/100. How many gallons is each block? I thought each block was just one gallon with ten blocks total

So is the 2 gallon safety included in the 9.5 tank size or is the tank REALLY 11.5 gallons?

SuperABM, you really seen to want to know how far you can go, why not take a gas can and see.. I have a friend that does this with every car they get. hahah I only go about 30 to 40 miles and I feel I need to fill up, but usually do appear that there is more room, cause Im usually right about 9 galloons.

it's included. when you fill up from one bar, you'll find it only takes 7-8 gallons.

Besides the one blinking bar, is there one more state where there's no bar at all?

It's not that I'm trying to be lazy and not fill up. Sometimes you're trying to get somewhere that's 40 miles away, and the car just went down to the last bar, you want to see if you can make it to your destination and fill up there or risk driving into the ghetto and get gas there...

Good question, filling up in a ghetto place sucks! Lol!

the different models seem to behave a bit differently. i don't know yet on my pip, but on my gen II, you got one short beep and the blinking last bar. it didn't change anymore after that, you just ran out of gas. if you didn't fill up at the beep, it was easy to forget you were low and a hundred miles later, you're stuck on the side of the road.

When my last bat STARTS flashing it takes about 8.2 or so gallons to fill the tank.

I was a bit confused by my reported cruising range before filling up. I had just dropped to 3 bars, and it estimated I could go 80km. That seems pretty low even for 2 bars, and my general mpg has been pretty consistent on the car. Not that I'd ever want to chance it, but can that cruising range sometimes be fairly far off the mark?

The cruising range calculation estimates the distance until just a single fuel bar is left.

Humbug! That cruising range calculation has never made any sense to me. It has certainly never given me anything close to a real-world calculation, no matter how I look at it. It always says there is way less "cruising" time than there is fuel in my tank, so I am tempted to think it is relating battery info and not fuel info.

For example, if I have a full tank of gas and that display tells me I only have 100 miles of range left, I know it is NOT talking about the fuel. Maybe mine is wonky or I don't understand it, but I've simply decided to never pay any attention to what that says. :)

Like I said, on mine the range goes to zero within a few miles of the fuel warning, which is right when you get to 1 segment on your fuel gauge.

With the Ultra Gauge I can set it to read gallons of fuel left in my tank, or gallons used since fill up. Setting the tank sizeto 9.5 is not as accurate as setting it to 10 gallons. I guess I put 1/2 gallon into the fillup tube. Anyway, gives me a better idea of how much fuel I have should the fuel gauge blink, which has only happened once. I do not enjoy getting below 1/2 tank unless I am checking something for mileage.

I have never let the car get below the half-way mark on fuel, though this time around I was thinking of letting it go lower just to get a better feel for the mileage impact drivers 2 and 3 are having on the car.
