cost to fix front bumper and engine hood

How much would it cost to replace the front bumper along with the engine hood(see pics)

Appreciate if you can recommend any repair shops in the Tampa bay area!

I don't have collision/comprehensive so will have to pay out of pocket.

I took the Prius to a local body work shop and received a quick estimate(verbal) for ~ $4000.00

Am requesting detailed estimates which will show the breakdown of the parts etc. The detailed estimates will take atleast a day.

The $4K quote is for after-market parts and for OEM am told it will be another $1K additional.

Good thing is my paycheck is coming up on Friday(tomorrow), otherwise this would have put me in deep hole and funny part is I have to wait for another paycheck to cover the repairs.. I couldn't help but wonder about how expensive it is for repairs!!

You are right, when I view from the corner the thick frame(metal or aluminum not sure) is slightly bend towards inside.

I will post an update whenever I receive the detail estimates.

Got an estimate over the phone for $3900 - they will need to replace bumper, engine hood, headlight(even though they did work), radiator, bar, condensor etc) . have asked for written estimate.

Also, I called the body shop(Bed Rock Auto) and asked if they would find used OEM than brand new after-market.

They will re-price the estimates and send an updated one later this afternoon.

They did say NOT having to paint the parts on the inside will save $100 or more. Should I go for it?

 

Got the detailed estimate - 2 page long but I'll condense it...

The following needs to be replaced or repaired -

• Front Bumper
• Grille
• Front Lamps
• Radiator Support
• Cooling
• Condensor
• Engine Hood
• Fender

Total for Parts(after market) = ~ $1600
Total for Body Labour and Paint Labour = ~ $1800

Looking at a total with taxes and stuff at about ~ $3600.00

It will take about a week to fix the car. I'll post an update once the car is done.

 

After 2 weeks, the car was fixed and it looks brand new.

All the parts were OEM except for the bumper and am happy so far..time will tell if I'll have any issues with the work done...

The car drives well except for one issue. When I make a sharp left turn, right around while making the turn, I hear a "ummph", "ummph" noise 4 or 5 times and then as soon as the car wheels are straight, I don't hear it and I have consistently heard this noise.

I checked around the left wheel and I don't see it touching or anything in its way. Any thoughts?

 

Am not sure about the radioator cover but i'll ask. thanks for pointing it out.

I took the car back and the gentleman who assisted me thought that the Canister near the left wheel could have issues with the 'air' intake and could actually be making a noise similar to blurping(which seems plausible) - am told it'll take a day to fix it!

 

Am responding but I hope you or other's don't Critique my choice.

Basically, my thought is if you buy a used car AND have an equivalent $ amount in your reserves AND anything you buy to shield yourself against a depreciating asset is a waste of money in the long run.( keyword: used, equivalent $, depreciating)

Example: If you bought Prius for $10K and you have additional $10K in reserves, buying Collision may help in short-term but in the long term, the additional monthly premium that you pay can be used elsewhere.
Also, once you do make a claim, you'll be paying an additional monthly increase in premium for making the claim and those add up.

I have GEICO, adding $1000 deductible for collision adds another ~$250 into my total yearly premium.

Let's say you had a damage of $3K in Year 1 - you'll come out ahead since you paid $1000(deductible) and Insurance would pay $2000 but you really paid $1250(including the additional $250 in yearly premium)

However, if you had the same damage in Year 6 - you would have paid $1000(deductible) and Insurance would pay $2000 but you really paid $2500($1000 + $250*6)

Year 1 = $1000 + $250
Year 2 = $1000 + $250+$250
Year 3 = $1000 + $250+$250 +$250 and so on

so every year that you have collision in your policy, you are paying more for coverage and it's value begins to decline/diminsh over a long period of time.

Again, these are calculations based on you being a responsible and careful driver etc, please don't ask me what if the car gets totalled yada yada for those people - I say, get full coverage and pay top dollar!
