Last night, I took the southern route to Decatur going over the Tennessee River bridge and noticed $3.29/gal. Around Huntsville, gas is running around $3.39/gal so I added the most recent, movie of gasbuddy.com:
    http://hiwaay.net/~bzwilson/prius/after_chevron_fire_b.mov

Now the movies starts with the effect of the Chevron refinery fire in California and you can see higher prices radiate out. But more recently, California has suffered a state-only, price hike of exceptional steepness and locality. But not previously seen, the Mountain Region is seeing increased prices. Curiously, it looks like gasbuddy doesn't show our Huntsville (Madison County) decrease.

The price at my local Coscto was about $4.30 last week. It is $3.99 today so it's dropping pretty fast.

wow, must be nice. WA State gas prices went up nearly 10 cents on average due to "concerns over the CA gas situation"... iow, no refinery burned, no formulation change over, no nothing but "concern!"

at over $4 a gallon we are at or near a record for gas at this time of year...

Oh yeah, gas prices just plummeted in my area, down to a much more reasonable price of $4.39 a gal. My nice person! You can damn well bet it's going to be some time we see under 4 buck gas around here!
As much as I like the results the AQMD has achieved here in SoCal, this winter, summer blend, just when we schedule maintenance on a couple of plants, while oh my the lord has struck down one of our refineries, the other fire was a stupid worker bee series of the same excuses, at the same time every year, are really starting to crank my chain!
I may go Leaf on them yet!!

in the Northeast we are in price flux.
We have some $3.50's but my spouse paid $3.95 yesterday and was making excuses for not getting cheaper (only one pip left...not to be confused with PiP)...which by the way is one solution for CA (PiP that is)

East coast has refinery problems that is raising the prices.Right now its less expensive to oil companies to produce fuel on the gulf coast and europe and ship it to the east coast. You end up paying these shipping and pipeline costs, and pipelines need to be improved too. I expect you will continue to pay a higher transport cost unless the government steps in to subsidize upgrading east coast refineries. This could be revenue neutral by taxing oil just a little.

This is fundamentally different than the west coast, where all that needs to happen is some better regulation. The california government seems to be actively creating these price spikes. All they need to do is stop being stupid. But what are the chances that politicians stop acting against the interests of the people.

Yeah, it has been. I got gas yesterday in Mountain View for $3.99/gal for regular. It was about 15 to 20 cents cheaper than the relatively cheap gas station I normally go to in San Jose.

The stations that I pass frequently pass which peaked at $4.69/gal (IIRC) were down to ~$4.29/gal or so last night.
