Here it is. My (old) new 2009 Prius. I paid 13,974 and traded in an awful VW GLI. So nice to see over 45 mpg!! Love it so far except for a weird whirring sound when I turn it off, but apparently everyone says that is normal. Anyway, I'm excited!! IMG_0006.jpg

    Welcome aboard!

Where are you located? Can you update your location info?

If you live in a snowy area, I'd definitely get a set of snow tires and have them ready.
It's likely the coolant heat storage (thermos) pump. If you want us to listen, put up a video.

The bearings on that pump can get noisy (mine started making noises like the bearings were going bad) so I got mine replaced under warranty. TSB at Attention: If you have a squeaky CHS water pump! New TSB | PriusChat.

I bought the '09 VW in May and two weeks later the fuel pump went bad. $650. Two days later, the battery went and had to be replaced. $120. A month ago the Oil plug threads stripped and they couldn't get it out so the oil pan had to be replaced. $280. Then driving to Virginia last week the check engine light came on and I found out the entire intake manifold needed to be replaced because of a "flapper valve" that went bad. Another $500-800 apparently. I decided to get rid of it and am now enjoying great mileage! The warranty had expired so I had to pay for all of it (except the last one since I traded it in). Over $1000 of repairs in the first 6 months. Needless to say I won't be buying VW any time soon.

How do I change it so my name doesn't show up on my profile?

    Aye aye aye...

The reason I ask is the first rebuttal that hybrid "haters" say is "why didnt you buy a TDI VW instead?!". They tout the VW to be the most reliable, best mpg vehicle on the planet  Of course, accounts like yours never make any of the discussion boards where the hybrid haters lurk but I digress....

You are going to LOVE the Prius. I came from a 15mpg SUV that I drove for eight years, I never thought I'd be in a car again. I bought my Prius 9-14-12 and have never looked back

I second the "won't be buying VW anytime soon" sentiment. Someone at worked asked me why I didn't consider a TDI instead of the "expensive to fix" Prius and I told her about my '99 Jetta TDI that was always in the shop. It always seemed like I could never get out of the dealer for less than $500 in repairs each time, so we finally got rid of it. Also, my insurance agent said since VW's are so expensive to fix, they are also more expensive to insure.

Exactly. My insurance went down when I switched from the GLI to the Prius. I'm saving over $110/month on gas and insurance!
