200,000 Mile Club

Happy to report my 2006 GEN II just broke 200000 last night. To date I have only needed the following Maintenance:

Oil Changes
New HID Bulbs
3 Sets of Tires
1 Set of Front Pads (Rear shoes still original)
! Set of new Front and Rear Struts
Alignment

Not Bad for 6 Years and 200000 Miles, I still Average about 45 MPG here in the Northeast

Are struts fairly standard changes for this many miles?

 

Well, my Struts were probably shot at around 100000, I just kept using them as I was quoted 600 per set to replace at Sears Auto. Well I eventually just bought Gabriel's off Amazon for about 380 including the mount kits and had a friend help me change them, took about 5 hours on the ground with a Jack and hand spring compressor. I think 100000 is about the most you can expect out of them. The ride improved dramatically with the new struts. Next time assuming there is one I will probably get KYB, those are the OEM.

 

I had my struts changed at 150k and all four shocks/struts were $600 at my local shop. I think you're right that all you can get out of them is 100,000 miles.

 

I have 208,675 on my 07 Prius I bought in 08 with 15k on it. The only thing I have ever done to the car is replace the front brake pads at 190,000. I have not been religious with oil changes but I wish I was. The car has literally been maintenance free. I am assuming I will have to replace the smaller car battery at some point as well as the serpentine belt and water pump. I recently bought new steel wheels because my original rims were bent from New England pot holes. I use the car as a truck and carry tools, lawn mower, I have also had a small fridge and hot water tank in the back. Amazing vehicle. 52mpg in summer and about 46 in winter.

 

We are at 280,500 with our 2007 Prius. I love this car so much!!

We have done the following:
Changed the rear shocks twice, changed the wheel bearings on two of the wheels, brake pads at 220k, oil changes every 5k and new tires around every 3ok, two new headlights

Current issues: the car is burning oil, the tire sensor computer does not work and I had to get two new tire sensors (I am not spending the $600 they want for the new computer on top of the $500 I already gave them for the sensor), the car needs a new catalytic converter and this will run close to 2k, I have been procrastinating and haven't changed that yet.

$500 for tire sensors? You got ripped off, must be the Stealership. How much oil is burning?

 

297,859 miles on my 2007 Prius Touring Edition. No repairs. None. Original everything except tires and front brakes (done at 234k). Needs a catalytic converter, but it keeps passing NY inspection so I ignore the engine light. Countdown to 300K - should cross in two weeks. Is there a 300,000 mile club?

Tonight on the way home from work, my Gen II Prius turned over 200,000 miles. I bought the car in April 2005. No real mechanical problems to date. Just general service and maintenance.
1) Did you replace the HV battery pack? No
2) Did you replace the 12v lead-acid battery? Yes, last spring
3) Did you replace the hybrid transaxle fluid? No
4) Did you replace the brake pads? Yes, only because I work with the Toyota Technical Training group and they needed a car to do a brake job on for a Brake Maintenance and Service training course. Brakes and rotors replaced at 185,000 with over 40% of the lining left. It didn't cost me a penny!!!
5) Your lifetime MPG (if available)? No record kept but always seem to average between 43 - 47 mpg
6) How often do you change your oil? What brand / product did you use? Change oil and filters every 5,000 miles. Always use Toyota 5W-30 oil and Toyota Filters.
7) How about post a picture of 200,000 miles on ODO? Picture attached.

I have 252,000 on my 2005 Prius. I burn app 1/4 quart every 5,000 miles. I religiously use Schaeffer's 7000 Synthetic Blend Oil and Pure One filters. Schaeffer's is a botique oil , and avaiable only from independent reps or selected dealers. I swear by it.

 

That's the way Amsoil is... SSO 0-30W rated to 35k, I go about 25k.
I can only get it through a rep or become a dealer.

Never tried Schaffer.

Over 300,000 and still no repairs. Tires, fluids, front brakes, maintenance. Not a pump or a switch or a bearing.

Just hit the 299,999 mark on my 05 Prius about a month ago. I was so excited I called a friend and said, "Its going! its about to flip..... any second..... uh or maybe not!!!" lol I am one of the "lucky" ones that their odometer is stuck. I am torn about this being a good or bad thing, if you know what I mean. I keep track now using my trip mileage.
Problems? lol well I have not done any major work on it. Changed my plugs at 185k, 12 volt battery like 2 years ago, on headlight bulb, brakes once and went with ceramic and they are great. Tires? I would say due to the way I drive and the things I have hauled in it, yes. My car sometimes "codes out" on me. All lights come on in the panel. I purchased a code reader so I just pull over, check my water and stuff, reset the codes and TADA I drive on. I have lived in the car when times were hard but could always go somewhere even with just $5 and yes it still looks good. I loooove this car. I know it will die one day since I cannot afford to fix the things it would like me too, but, I know it will start each and every day. When it dies I will be going down the highway in it and I will be heartbroken because I know I will not be able to afford to fix it or buy another one any time soon. So, thank you Toyota, in advance of that day. My car never was a Taxi, I am the original owner and put virtually everyone of those miles on it and nope did not drive to the east coast and back.

If you have the problems as indicated by Combination Meter Warranty Enhancement | PriusChat, I'd imagine getting the combination meter (includes speedo, odo, shift indicator, guess gauge, etc.) replaced would fix your stuck odometer problem.
