Tried to search this and found some info but nothing definitive. Just picked up a PHV two weeks ago and Toyota says 35 front and 33 rear. Will there be any abnormal wear if I take them up to the max on the sidewall? Thanks.
I'm running 42/40.. at least last time I checked. It was based on a recommendation I found here.. somewhere.
Just make sure you measure 'cold tire pressure' to get the best number. I have a small handy pressure measuring pen .
keep mine around 40 too, i tried high 40s but the ride was so rough i softened them back down. The listed PSI on door jamb is far too low IMO for good MPGs, but is does ride nice and smooth. Dan
hey rockerdan, why are you running spacers? Also I see the HID, did you replace the high beams with 9012 bulbs? That will be first mod I do to mine?
Never inflate over the Max Load printed on the tire. My recommendation is to inflate for even wear, this makes a long lasting tire, a very safe tire, and improves MPG over Toyota's recommendation, which provides the most comfortable ride. I also recommend you leave the 2 PSI offset front to rear, to imitate Toyota's handling performance. Sadly, 'even wear' varies, so no 'cookie cutter' answer is always right for every tire. You may wish to try 40/38 and then adjust as you see the wear pattern evolve. My Integreties liked 42/40, my FuelMaxs thought 38/36 was too high. I only have 2800 miles on my Yokohamas, too early to tell.
Has Anyone from Toyota stated why they recommend 35front / 33 rear? That would Not be as "low resistance rolling", as 42/40. Who first came up with adding up to 6psi or more than the door panel recommended? I used 41/39 in my 2007 Prius and didn't see any unusual tire wear. However, I had to convince my tire rotation shop to inflate to MY pressures, instead of the door panel. I never had a car before that I inflated more than the door panel numbers.
