Who else has gone 100 mph in their Prius?

Many times, 100+ is very easy to achieve. Mine has a sweet spot around 80-85 and if the hills arent bad it gets aroud 45+ mpg. Drop down to about 75 and mpg goes down to 42-45. YMMV.

Most any car will drive 100+ MPH, but only fools drive that fast in a Prius.

 

You know, I had a Jeep Wrangler that would do 100mph. I wouldn't recommend it. That being said, I have to agree with the above statement. I have no doubt the Prius will do 100mph, but this vehicle was not engineered for that, which means that as well as MPGs, handling and safety will be compromised. I have a couple of motorcycles for when I "feel the need for speed".

The Prius seems to excel at the things that other vehicles do not. Just like when I was in stop & go traffic today on the interstate. I got 71.4mpg on that leg. When I drive 70mph non-stop on the interstate, I get mid 50s. You have to put the Prius in situations where it is going to heavily utilize that EV mode.

I guess Canada has lower speed limits than the US. I think the fastest we can go (legally) is 110 km/hr (~70mph).

To answer your question, I have never driven 100+ mph in my Prius. I don't think I ever will. In the province (state) that I live, they are thinking of giving police the ability to immediately seize your vehicle if you're found driving 50 km/hr (~32 mph) over the speed limit.

Only got up to 94, I have e spot where i have about 1/4 mile before i come over the crest of a hill on the highway. After that the radar potential is too high. It felt stable and held the oad nicely

 

this past weekend (also in the R/D area) I snuck up on 100 without realizing it. Honestly, the car held it together fairly well. Having driven many vehicles (2 wheels and 4) up to that speed, I'd have to say the Prius was one of the better ones.

The only complaint I have is that the ICE - at WOT - sounds like the nuts and bolts are flying off. Not literally, but it's just not a sexy sound in the upper rev range, even compared to a 15-year old 4-banger Accord.

 

Took it to Watkins Glen for Track Day. Hit 105 on back straight and 95 on front straight. Wet conditions so speeds would have been higher in dry conditions. Stock Brakes faded on 2nd lap so had to slow down after that.

 

I've only had mine up to 82~83 mph. As others have posted I can imagine the engine noise would be over the top; don't think I wanna try it.

My V6 RAV4 on the other hand....

I think many european users did. Find the thread about the fastest driving of the Prius. It was 3-4 months ago. Prius reaches it's top speed without any problems (180kmh, 194 kmh displayed). On 17" rims it handles very good.
As with any car the faster you drive the more insecure it is (except F1/Indy cars that have to reach certain speed to get required downforce).

It really doesn't matter whether you drive Prius or any other similar class car. When you have to slam the brakes to stop immediately - braking distance will be more or less the same. It depends more on road conditions and tyres (LRR tyres may have longer braking distans on cold/wet conditions). Of course Toyota GT86 with sport tyres will stop much faster than Prius with LRR. But swap them and result may be much different.

 

fastest i have gone is 85 and that was to pass an 18 wheeler... virginia has insane laws for speeding

going 80+mph or 30+ over the speed limit and they hit you with a class 2 misdemeanor...
maximum penalties: $2500 fine, jail time, licence gone for 6 months, and it stays on your record for 11 years.

oh yeah, parts of the highway have the speed limit at 70, and they pull you over at 81. thats a fun game!

so yeah, i dont go over 79.

 

Oh yeah...and if there are any law enforcement officers reading this post...we all mean going 100 mph while driving a virtual prius in Gran Turismo 5...=)

 

Why pay a huge premium for a car such as a Prius, a premium that is paid for high mileage and its hybrid technology....so to go at very high speeds. There are cheaper cars out there that are much sportier. The age group of the Prius user has steadily been dropping, no doubt.

 

After driving through some granny states, it was so nice going through Oklahoma and Texas on the way back to Gun Barrel City and seeing 75 mph speed limit signs. Didn't hit 100, but know I averaged over 80 over a couple of hundred miles without getting tensed up over getting pulled over. Mileage dropped to the mid-40's but my overall lifetime is still a touch over 50 so getting to open it up was worth it.

 

A few times when I have had a long empty rural road, I have put my gen 3 to 100, then 110, and had the speed limiter shut it down at 115. I love the 40-80 mph passing kick of the combination gas and electric drive. Nothing quite like instant full electric motor torque.
