I was at the dealer today and my sales guy, john, told me Toyota is giving an extra 3000 off the advanced with toyota finance. So thats 5000 off . I am in Frederick Md.
It seems for most states the PiP is cheaper then a similar Non PiP. For me it was a no brainer. If the cost is close, even if you never plugged it in it gets better MPG. Dan
Yea... but what does the finance package look like? I'd be willing to bet that they make up that loss with hidden fees, upsells, additional charges throughout the life of the financial agreement...
they are offering 0% interest on loans. and Leases are also incredibly cheap now. I think the fact they did not sell many initially due to cost has toyota blowing out the 2012s. The incentives seem to just keep getting better. I paid just 240 more dollars for my base model then the THREE model i nearly got. Just the heated seats alone were worth the 240 even if i never plugged it in. But ive saved over 80 bucks in fuel in the first month already too. right now anyone NOT buying a PiP and buying a NON PiP is nuts to do so. Dan
I agree, I think is is a good idea for the Pip. I remember my first atm (automatic teller machine) card, I mean the bank first offered them! It was strange and new and a transition from what I thought was normal, the check book. But now look at debit cards.... I think it will catch on. I found since I bought my Pip last Tuesday, I have been getting lots of questions about it; revolving around speed and power and what happens when it runs out of gas..... I think toyota would benefit from a some short informational commercials. The one with R2 and C3Po is cool.
So it will be -2000 cash incentive + another -3000 cash incentive? Strange this wasn't offered to me recently when I purchased it in NY. Maybe it's regional incentive? Or for October?
It is was for the advanced. The salesman told me it was for the last 3 days of September. He said it was from Toyota Financial with the 0 percent deal , 3000 on top of the 2.
just go onto toyota.com and look under buying tools and specials. there are many for the Pip. You never have to buy an extended warranty, that is a ploy that most salesman/business managers during your checkout will try to sell you on. Listen politely to their sales pitch, and then so NO THANKS. I have seen some of them nearly cry when i say NO. LOL Best thing ive learned over the yrs of buying many new cars....go to 2 dealers, work your best deal on one dealer, then go to the other and tell them the deal MINUS 500 bucks or so. Or 25 on a payment. Typically the new dealer will jump to beat the "price" you gave them. Its such a racket you must learn to play the "game" with these dealers. But right now toyota is offering so much on 12s leftovers that just about any dealer will be able to make money easily because toy has discounted them so much. Dan
Yea buying new cars is a total racket... That's why I always buy a new car that's a few years old for half the price. You'd have to be a millionaire to be able to not lose significant income on the rapid depreciation of a brand new car... Of course when it comes to people rationalizing upside down cars and underwater houses, having a high credit score truly is the ultimate racket... I mean the US lost $16 trillion in household wealth in 2007 because all of us were so eager to live beyond our means. That's why the best Prius is an older Prius. So I plan to wait to buy a 2012 Prius plugin till at least 2015!
It was a good deal and I couldn't pass it up - just got a base model Sea Glass Pearl. Beautifully designed car and I'm lovin' the 100 mpg it gets around town.
All good and sound economic advice. At this point in my life, money is not always the issue it used to be, now the issue is TIME. I wanted the PIP now, so I bought it, and never looked back. It's a great car!
Sounds great, just bear in mind that the incentives are regional and vary substantially. Generally the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions seem to have the factory incentives on PiPs Right now. That could mean a good deal if you are willing to fly and drive. For example, from the link off Toyota's site: 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid -> Shopping tools -> local specials I believe these are the new Oct deals. Some areas show no deals on any vehicles, may be still updating for Oct? I've left those areas out for now, if it says no deal then there are incentives shown for other vehicles but not for PiP. Deals _may_be valid in nearby states, this is just what is shown by local regional websites. For example, WA shows an incentive valid in ID, MT, OR, WA & AK that doesn't show up when searching in MT or ID. It may also just be that the sites in those areas haven't been updated? Wow! I should have purchased my car in DC or VA and had it shipped to CA. I bought my base PiP a few weeks back and only got the $500 rebate that Toyota gives in CA. I presume, I would still get the $1500 CA rebate and federal tax credit if I buy in another state.
It looks like all the Toyota Finance lease deals are asking for almost a full year of lease payments up front. Do they offer a sign and drive lease option for the PiP ? I don't know why anyone would want to put cash into a lease upfront. It's not like you are buying the vehicle and the cash upfront is typically not reducing the lease payments $ for $ over the term of the lease.
I don't know for sure, but I believe most will do $0 upfront at the same residual / money factor. I assume they advertise them this way to make it look cheaper per month. Its not entirely clear from how they list it, but I believe the NW deals at $365/mo are effectively $0 due at signing after the factory cash, vs the NE deals at $269/mo with $2699 due at signing after $3500 factory cash. Splitting that $2699 over 36 payments would be about $344/mo. Those also seem to be inline with what Diane was mentioning in Socal, where factory cash is lower but state incentive can be applied to up front payment for ~$365/mo with $0 up front. Rob
Bought my car last week for -2000+0% now it's -3500+0% lol. Only if I waited a week longer. Just gotta make sure my wife doesn't find out that we could've bought it cheaper.
