2005 with 109k...battery died. I am an independent dealer & have had 100's of hybrids, but this is the first gen 2 Prius that I have had with a battery problem. Even though the miles are low, I am 100% convinced it's the battery by using a very thorough process of elimination. I purchased a used battery from a salvage yard that had been sitting for 9 months. Installed the battery, but the Prius will not start & the dash looks like a Christmas tree. Is there any way to get enough juice to the traction battery to start the car & see if it will charge? I have replaced gen 1 batteries that have sat longer with no problems. I recently installed a used Escape Hybrid battery that had sat for 14 months. The Escape has a feature that allows the 12v battery to charge the traction battery for 10 min. This was enough juice to start the vehicle and begin the normal charging process. Any help would be great. There are no competent/honest dealers or independent hybrid shops in my area.
Have you put the orange safety plug in properly it has to be slid up after fitting or you will get the Christmas tree. Do a search on "transaxle disengage and scroll down to see pictures of correct fitting.
