    yet there are several Volt owners that don't use the Plug and just drive it as a hybrid.

    Ha!, nice try, but way off the mark. Government Motors being the 2nd largest hybrid manufacturer? Outside of the Volt and Ampera, what other hybrids is Government Motors producing?

    Government Motors name is very correctly named as they chose to go the bailout route and have a political appointee - Ackerson.

    So you might as well get used to the name. As mentioned in previous posts, which you again selectively chose to ignore or refuse to recognize, if / when Government Motors pays back all of the bailout money, only then will they revert to their old name.

    Stop with your tristing of the facts concerning total hybrid sales of the Prius vs Government Motors. You errored in quoting Government Motors total vehicles sold, not hybrids. This pains you to no end.

    The hybrid sales numbers don't lie.

    Yet, you continue to argue for the sake of arguing and not being constructive.

    Your hand has been played. Numerous posters have mentioned this to you, but again you refuse to recognise this.

    If that is the case, they really should be driving the Checy Cruze. Much better price and gas fuel economy is pretty darn good. Heck, why not buy 2 Cruzes for the price of 1 Volt.

    Hmm when you like to beat it up you compare it to the cruze, when in reality its just reusing some of the same Delta-II platform elements, you lament its just a halo, then you turn around and say its alone and not sharing production costs or building reputation. Then again you seem to just want to bash, not provide facts, definition or logical discussion.

    When did the first "family" member of the Prius come out? Prius launched in us in 2000 (japan 1997) and it was not until 2005 that there was a second US car using HSD... Hmm 5-7 year initial model, just like the projected timeline for the volt. What came outin 2005? Lexus models using HSD.. with higher margins. What's next for Voltec, ELR, which has been spotted recently around the country.

    Gm announced a cruze PHEV.. (not a voltec cruze), further expanding on the leverage/lines.



    All we know officially is the ELR has been announced. Cruze PHEV announce. The Voltec design offers the possibilities for power and for awd and many other range of designs. How long did it take for an more powerful or awd HSD? More telling, how long before launch did TMC announce those vehichles?


    Yes its sad to see you spinning and misrepresenting history again. You seem to really like that. The recent halt of production was about GM doing something else, preping to be able to produce Impalas (which sells at much higher volume) in the same plant. But you've already seen that, but just want to misrepresent things to cast aspersions on the Volt.

    Funny that you still have NOT answered your own questions about purpose. How do you define middle market? Given that definition show that the prius aimed there while the the volt was not. Then again it seems you'd rather have a double standard as it fits your agenda better than facts.

    Good points on all of the above. I can see in the near future a book has come out titled "The Volt, The Car Nobody Wanted" It will probably be written by a couple of insiders of the Government Motors Corp who have been long go of the corp. world.

    This would be the more Government Motors changes, the more they stay the same.

    Are you a taxpayer?

    I am not advocating for any "forgive", just pointing out that there are higher priorities to tackle at this time. The improving health of US based manufacturing, whether GM, Ford, Tesla, or .... is something US consumers should be supportive of.

    I guess you don't read these forums much, or know how to click a link in a signature. I am running about 83% EV and climbing. I try not to use the ICE, but it is there when I need it.

    You really are just a troll, IMO.

    Well, I see that once again you don't actual have data or facts.. just personal attacks. I said General Motors is, in terms of sales, the second largest in the US. (Which is a good transition, lead by the Volt, since in 2010, they were #4.) But you don't provide facts, just your uninformed opinion and then attack my character.

    Hybrid sales numbers are facts, generally easily obtainable. But rather than check my statement, provide refuting evidence, or ask for data, you just want to insult me. I realize that actual data and math may be hard for you and some other that hate GM so much that just the mention and your higher-brain seems to stops functioning. Here is an image is the hybrid dashboard data, reformatted so you don't have to add/divide. GM has 12% of the current hybrid sales, more than Ford, Honda and Nissian combined.

    P.s. don't bother replying to this for my sake.. your going back to the ignore list as you add nothing in content to these discussions, and I don't feel the need to be insulted. But thanks for proving conclusively that those that to bash the volt, you won't let a little thing like facts get in the way. I hope any potential PC readers thinking about the volt vs Prius will pay attention to that fact, that the Prius supporters are not providing facts, just making up stuff to fit their agenda.

    When will we see it?

    The Prius came out in 1997. In 2001 its power output was increased for the North American market. The gen2 appeared in 2004.

    Then we got the Highlander and Camry hybrid in 2005 and 2006.


    The gen3 Prius came out in 2009.

    In 2012 we got the Prius wagon, Prius response to the InsightII 2 years later, the next gen Camry, and the plug in Prius in limited roll out.

    Despite being available elsewhere, we don't have hybrid minivan or even the three seat row v. People have been asking for the minivan since I joined Priuschat. Toyota's response is to steer them towards an overpriced Highlander. Don't need AWD. Got to go to Lexus for that.

    So it was 8 years between introduction of a Toyota hybrid and expanding the drive system to another model. Then another 7 before a wagon version of the Prius and a wide selection of hybrids for non luxury car buyers.

    Why the pressure on the Volt to prove itself in such a short time? Yes, it is pricey, but so was the first Prius for its market segment. The 2001 Camry started under $18k.

    Cadillac is getting a Voltec model. Speculation on the Cruze hybrid. A wagon Volt concept. This is faster expansion than what Toyota's hybrid system in the same point in the product's lifetime. It bypassed Toyota to a plug-in.

    Why the double standard?

    The Geo convertible was a really fun car to drive around. Easy on gas, easy to park and the sunny days with the top down - that can't be beat.

    That would be the case if Volt was the very first motor & battery offering. It's not. With EV1, several designs of Two-Mode (4WD, FWD, plug-in), BAS, then eAssist, it's hardly their first attempt at delivering high-efficiency.


    $4 gas. 500 million shares. Increased traditional competition. Oil dependency. Lack of diversity. Plug-in reputation/diversity/understanding. CAFE standards...

    yeah.. if they had a reasonable hybrid my family would own one. We looked at the highlander, escape when my wife needed a new cuv, ended up with an outback that gets us 26-27mpg and was 10K less in price.


    As expected.. its seems the double standard is because of John's long-term bias against GM, so he holds them to a higher standard. Its fine if Toyota, with the prius on the road, says it wants to go slow and not even do a minimal PHEV, but GM who EV1 and multiple technologies since then, without finding a winning technology/price point, has to move faster because its not their first attempt.

    Of course when the ELR is delivered in 2014, that will be 4 years after the Volt, which is faster than the Lexus hybrids followed on the Prius, by many years if you recognize that Toyata launched in 1997 in Japan..

    Then again it is probably okay to hold GM a slightly higher standard, after all they they are making the best PHEV on the planet, and the only affordable EREV

    Actually, with the tax credit current model, of 200K per manufacture, the strategy of going slow enough to let other get close but not quite catch up, is actually a good business model. If they get to far ahead in sales, then their competitors would be able to under cut their prices and benefit from the market education that GM paid more than its share to do. If they go slow and the market/concept is partially validated by others such as Toyota and Ford and Honda, with me-too PHEVs that are still well behind in technology, then GM can keep its technology lead while having the costs for education spread. I think they would be happy with more sales, but with sales being a bit behind the projections, it then makes sense to go a bit slower with rollout and new models.

    It would be much more interesting if the tax credit was for the first million sales, independent of the manufacturer. Then GM would have had an incentive to push for much higher volume much faster.

    Yet, I was able to average 56 mpg out of my Volt on a 3700 mile trip in CS mode. I don't "like" your "ICE mode" as it means I'm using gas. Efficiency is plenty good however, if you don't drive like Mario Andretti.
