I searched the forum and couldn't find anything on this.

I love my Prius C but there's one thing pissing me off! Every time I hit a bump on the road even just an expansion joint my glove compartment creeks. It really annoying. Other than that I love my Prius C

Anyone figure out how to fix this?

Is there any adjustments I can make on the door or latch?

    Thanks for any suggestions!

    :)

The best solution I found so far is to keep my stereo loud enough:)
I did eliminate most of my rattling but no luck with total elimination. At this point, my main source of rattling is the dashboard itself, since it's made of hard plastic some joints create rattling noise even on a small expansion joint.

    ^^LOL

Well that's not what I was looking for (loud stereo) nor what I wanted to hear (that you have more noises from the dash)!!

    But thanks anyway!!

You are welcome. We had couple of threads here about panels. doors etc. but I doubt the someone fixed all of them. I hope it will work out for you.

I'm thinking of maybe using a piece of some black automotive foam with double sided tape to put the cover in slight tension. So it doesn't move when going over bumps. I was hoping someone knew a way to adjust the cover or the strike mechanism to prevent the cover from making noise.

Just find out where the sound is coming from and stuff some foam or a small piece of dynamat in between the panels. If the glove box door itself is the issue, you can put some of those foam sliders in the backside to eliminate the play. If there is no play in the panel, there is no noise from the panel. That being said have you confirmed its not something inside the glove box causing the noise?

I had the same noise about a month ago, I got rid of the noise buy wiping aromorol or any plastic protector on where the glove box meets the dash. I think the plastic rubbing together makes the noise when going over the bump and by doing this it makes it slippery therefore eliminating the noise. I could be wrong but it worked for me and is still working.

Is the Prius C a car with an unusually rattle prone interior? My 2010 Prius interior had a lot of rattles. The big "bridge" between the two front seats was a major source of rattles, but I got rid of them. However, the glove box was a real rattle trap and I never did get quiet.

Yeah I'll try the armor all trick first if that doesn't work then I'll try some foam or dynamat.

BTW My glove box is empty.

I have the same problem, It's like a cheap Styrofoam cooler stuck in the dash. I think TOYOTA should step up an fix the annoying problem before we all go nuts. It is hard enough getting laughed at in the slow lane all day long, but going along squeaking really hashes my mellow man!

yup, mine brand new was pretty rattly, over bumps, rough roads, etc. too much plastic in the interior of this thing.

just get used to it after awhile. it doesn't help that there's so little engine/road noise.

i have only 220 miles on my 2013 prius c4, with tons of bumpy railroad tracks and potholes around me. but so far it's been solid without any plastic or styrofoam type squeaks at all. i hope it stays that way.

Mine is stuffed with papers, manual, etc. More like a junk box. No rattles or squeaks. Maybe all the junk is weighing mine down.:) Anyway - my C2 has no rattles or squeaks from anywhere...probably jinxed myself by saying this.

You should hear my '97 Prizm! Shake, rattle and roll - noisy as all heck!

I took my C to the dealer and they installed a Sound Deadening Kit, which really is just some felt tape. They put the tape into the opening notches of the dash were the globe box locks into. It helps, not perfect, but it helps.

I had the same problem in my prius though its not a C. I bought a piece of felt with the sticky stuff on the back. Cut it into small strips and put it on my glove box door in the area where it closes and comes into contact with the rest of the car. Black color blends right in so you don't notice it. Worked very well for me and my squeaks.

The glove box on my Prius C4 has been rattling during cold weather as I hit expansion joints in the road, go over railroad tracks, etc. I found that the glove box dampener that is mounted on the side of the box next to the passenger door was rattling on its mounting pin. When the door is completely open and the dampener arm completely extended, there is no rattle. However, when closed it flops around on its mounting pin. I fixed the rattle by hooking a mini bungee cord on the end of the dampener and hooked the other end to the bottom side of the HVAC blower. The dampener has a convenient loop on the end on which to hook the bungee cord. It only applies a few ounces of side load to the dampener, however, it is enough force to stop the rattle. Frankly, you could use a long rubber band to do the same thing.

I found a weather strip at Home Depot, it is 1/2 inch square that is adhesive on one side. I basically put it on all the parts that meet when the door is closed. It compacts well and keeps it all tight and no more vibrations. Its is not noticeable because when you open the door you look past it and into the box. I call it a good fix.
