Took my C over to my local toyota dealership and was in and out in about an hour.
Service Manager said that everything was fine and that I could return at 10k for a
synthetic oil change. My first 5 services are complimentary and paid for by Toyota.:D

    For what its worth....

Dropped off mine early in the morning. They called and asked when I needed it. Said 2:30 pm - then realized my ride would be gone - asked for it by 12 noon. Said they'd try. The car was finished before 12. Guess they rushed cause when I checked my tires later that day - three of the valve stem covers were loose and one was missing. Found one next to the gas station air pump so it worked out. They did wipe out my trip A settings - oh well.

Rotate tires, check and replenish fluid levels, check tire pressure and thread depth, add oil conditioner....in my case they did lose one of the valve stem caps but I found another one rolling around next to the service station air pump. Relatively painless - just took a little time.

Edited add (I guess they do more than I thought): Took my C4 in for its 5k service today, and the paperwork made me laugh | PriusChat

No joke. They add something called "Krex" - Add KREX motor oil conditioner with Complimentary Roadside Assistance (don't ask me what this all means:confused:).
Maybe only at Servco Hawaii - Dealer uses Krex Graphite Lubricant in Oil | PriusChat

Just to follow up on my post linked above on my two complementary Toyota Hawaii Care oil changes I declined the Krex.

It's a six months of 5,000 miles deal. But when six months rolls around, we will likely have less than 2,000 miles on our C.
I'm pretty sure it won't need a tire rotation at under 2k.
Since I check the fluids monthly,I can't see any good reason to take our C back for service.

Is this something we need to do for warranty reasons?

you probably have to confer with a lawyer, dealers seem to be telling people that just driving their car voids the warranty.

I'm in the same boat, and asked Toyota:

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

We appreciate the opportunity to address your inquiry.

Toyota dealerships will follow the 5,000 miles or 6 months intervals as recommended in the 2012 Prius c Scheduled Maintenance Guide. Therefore, you may miss out on services provided under Toyota Care's complimentary maintenance plan, and these services cannot be made up. Missing a service interval will not cancel your Toyota Care, however, please keep in mind that this program is good for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first.

We recommend taking advantage of this complimentary maintenance plan and taking your Prius c in for service as recommended.

We hope you find this information helpful. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us athttp://www.toyota.com/help/contactus.html.

    Sincerely,

    Ricardo Hernandez-Bonifacio

    Thanks Ashely,
Seems like I should be able to get away with doing my own work, and not have any impact on the warranty.
We have owned two Toyota cars before (Corollas) and I've always done my own maintenance.

I have to admit, I've never had any problems with the local dealership (Woburn Toyota).
IIRC, the only problem on the 1978 was with the tires (the spare tire brand didn't match the others).
Eventually they saw they couldn't get the exact tire we needed (after 10k miles), they replaced all 5 tires with nice new tires.

It's the people at other local car dealerships where we've purchased cars over the last 30 years, that have left me with a reluctance to go back for service, if it can be avoided.
The inept service people we've encountered have taught us, it's better to DIY and avoid vehicle damage.
Apparently, competence and pride in workmanship is pretty rare in these parts.

I might've missed it, but has anyone figured out how to reset the "Maintenance Required" annoyance after crossing the 5k mile threshold? The dealership will only be touching my car for "service" over my dead and cold body.

    Another individual posted this -

I have spoken to Toyota Corporate and they stated that the complementary maintenance is not mandatory. It will not avoid your warranty in any manner.

Thanks, however the C doesn't have a MPH/KPH, Park, or Power button like the liftback Prius, so there'll have to be another way. I'll look at the owners manual when I get a chance.

Also, FWIW, Toyota cannot legally void your warranty for servicing the car elsewhere (be it DIY or 3rd party mechanic). This is to protect the customer from a monopoly.

Thanks! (y) I quickly flipped through the owners manual last night but didn't see it. I probably glossed right over that paragraph. Annoyingly, there doesn't seem to be anything in the ToC or Index that points to that page.

Krex is a Graphite oil additive..that seems to be used by several automakers in thier maintenence program.
