The main gory details are in that thread but between July 9th and July 23rd 2010, I drove 805.2 miles on 10.731 gallons of 100% no-Ethanol 87 octane gasoline with an average mpg of 75.016 mpg and an average speed of 22 mph and tires at 37/36 psi. Temps have been 79° to 98° with dew point from 68 to 85 (very humid) and south wind consistently @ 15 - 20 mph every day. Sure you can. Best places are downhills or off ramps. Also, the not recommended DFAS can be used at speed. But luckily the prius doesn't have to fool with this. Just use stealth mode. Kore971 Great job and with 17s!
You know, the crappy thing about this competition is the higher your mpg the more hours you have to spend hypermiling to finish a tank. I was trying to calculate what it would take to beat everyone except ufourya on my current tank. I'm sitting at 68.1mpg and 45mph average speed and 420 miles. To try and hit 80mpg I would have to pulse & glide for 10 hours or so to finish off this tank (360miles or so). Seriously? 10 more hours? *starts a long stream of profanities*
And to think everyone use to complain about the Gen II bladder reducing the tank size. Toyota can't win.

I have a 522 mile tank which has a higher MPG than the one I posted. Does it qualify? After reading the "rules" again in post #1, it makes no mention of the minimum miles required to play. Personally, I think it needs to be a fairly high number of miles to rule out shenanigans.
I think anything over 500 miles is fair. Let's hear what the others have to say before I make any official changes.
There can be a weight advantage to not using a full tank - each gallon of gas is about 7 pounds.. The highest MPG from a full tank/fillup is an important real world metric and what we should focus on. A full tank (after the first beep) for a Prius c would be about 8.1 gallons(with 1.5 gallons in reserve left) and for a standard 3rd gen Prius would be about 9.1 gallons (with 2.1 gallons in reserve left). 65 mpg calculated is very respectable high MPG for both a Prius c and regular 3rd gen Prius - so a range of 527 miles for a Prius c and 592 miles for a regular 3rd gen Prius represents about a full tank. Getting over 58 mpg calculated at the pump from the much heavier Prius v is more challenging even though its fuel tank is the same as the regular 3rd gen Prius-- so any range over 528 miles would be significant for a Prius v. A 2nd gen Prius with its bladder gas tank has a variable fuel tank size of 9.5 to 10.5 gallons and the empty gas bladder/tank first beep warning (with only 1.0 gallon in reserve left). Excluding super hypermilers from Japan(which have a bigger non-bladder fuel tank), after reviewing Cleanmpg.com -- a hypermiler should be able to get 65 mpg on a 2nd gen Prius (albeit Fuelly.com suggests that getting over 60 mpg on a 2nd gen Prius is rare) - hence a range of 650 miles per tank suggest a 2nd gen Prius driver who has some considerable skill. During the summer, I can get 67 mpg using 11 gallons without much effort now - so a range 737 miles is still very doable - going over that - requires a bit more work ... .
This sounds like a contradiction. If reduced weight of not having a full tank increases gas mileage, we should be encouraging that, rather than discouraging it.
Its amazing how you all get those high mileages. Great work everybody. I have observed there is no Gen II or Gen I in the list. The max I saw on my Gen II MFD is 65.6 MPG for first 130 miles two tanks back. I would love to drive a Gen III and Prius C with my driving skills and see how much MPG I get. Good going guys. Saving the Earth one mile at a time.
Personally I think it needs to be at least over 600 miles if not 700. If someone is getting on this list they should have no problem getting to those numbers on a tank.
