Understood, but it still does not explain the big difference in price between 32,000$/USD (PiP base model) & the Canadian price at 35,700$ ?

Isn't the US also adding the 6.1% duty import tax to their prices ? Why is there such a big difference in price between the US and Canada for basically the same car ?

No because the 6.1% duty is imposed on by Canada. The US would have their own import rules and regulations and I have no idea if they have any levy on cars imported into the US from abroad.

Also, Canadian vehicles tend to be better equipped (we'll have automatic headlights, wheel locks, all-season floor mats and auto-dimming mirror w/ Homelink as far as I know) that the US models don't have but the we don't have Entune or Safety Connect (both are subscription-based services), nor LED DRLs and optional HUD (but lower windshield replacement cost).

Tideland, I've seen nothing to suggest that the PHV in Canada will be equipped with auto-headlights and HomeLink. Have you actually read/heard about those two items?

I asked the dealer when I ordered about HomeLink but never heard back. And, I was hoping for LED DRLs... :-(

I've got my fingers crossed that my base CDN PHV will have HomeLink. In the US, HomeLink is only on the Advanced model, and isn't mentioned in any documentation in Canada.

I have auto-headlights right now on my 08 so I hope it's on my new base PHV or I'll be figuring out a way to add it.

It says the mirror is standard on the website.

Where? Because I have the order guide and I looked on the Toyota.ca website and they only mention the auto dimming mirror, not homelink.

My apologies, I thought you were looking at simply the mirror. You're right, it doesn't explicitly say "w/ Homelink". I don't think very many Toyotas now come with a plain auto-dimming mirror. It usually has a compass or Homelink (or both). I'll be very surprised if Toyota decided to change it because the price difference isn't all that great (even moreso if you assume that they'll get a lower price on purchasing that many mirrors).

I guess we'll find out in mid-November when folks start receiving the first PHVs in Canada.

Hmm, I hadn't thought about the extra cost of an HUD-compatible windshield. I'm still bummed that the Canadian Prius PHEV won't have it though. Does anyone know if the Canadian cold weather/windshield/snow element could be a factor as to why it wasn't included? (ie. maybe the heat that the HUD projection puts on the windshield could increase the risk of cracks if the windshield is in extreme cold conditions? - I know that my Corolla's factory windshield cracked this past January when it was parked outside in -40oC weather and I had cranked the front heating vent on in the car). Or was it simply a cost-issue in order to bring the 'face value' of the car closer to its US counterpart in order to offset higher import taxes/duties, etc?

Still nothing for us except for a confirmation that we are on the waiting list. :(

mxben, are you waiting to hear from the dealer or are you inquiring with them? My dealer had to ask the regional rep about the order, but I e-mailed them a few times... if I sat around waiting for their call/email I for sure would have waited longer.

OMG: seen on the "Toyota Canada Prius Plug-in" facebook account
Toyota Canada Prius Plug-in William Ma, what a dealership decides to place in their showroom is up to the individual dealership. With the vehicle's low MSRP, we are happy to hear that people are highly interested in choosing a Prius Plug-in. We are aware of some people taking delivery of their exciting new vehicles this week and next!

Low MSRP? Are they kidding? They must mean "compared to the Volt"...

    I suppose.

The interesting point however is that some people will receive their PiP starting this week.

FWIW, we got a call yesterday saying our PiP might arrive next week (week of Sept 10th) despite the earlier guidance that we'd have to wait until Q4. So, that's consistent with the PiP Facebook page.

Now that we have someone who can confirm us that what's been told on facebook about the first deliveries in the next weeks is real, I will have something to put some pressure on our dealer. So far we called it often to show our interest and that we were waiting for this car but we didn't try to bypass it because he seemed to have worked for us so far and we didn't wanted to be rude. Who did you e-mailed to make things happen? When did you ordered? Thanks for your advices!
