My Michelin Energy Saver AS tires, 195x65x15, with 68,000 miles were just about down to the wear bar indicators. So I went to Costco and had them install Bridgestone EP422 tires 195x65x15, all with 44 PSI max sidewall pressure. Costco has a special $100.00 off for a set of 4 Bridgestone tires. Price out the door was $371.00, the Energy Saver Tires 3 years ago were $465.00 out the door. (Note: No sales tax in Oregon). Drove home from Costco and these tires are quiet and roll very nicely, and I am pretty sure I will obtain the same mpg's as the Energy Saver tires. Indicated MPG's, I filled up at Costco and reset Trip B, when I arrived home was 58 mpg or about 54.5 or so true.
Alfon, Good luck with your new tires, I hope they do well for you. I think all of us will be interested to know how you fare with them.
Aye, we are looking forward to your long term results. With the Costco discount the Ecopia tires are a steal! That's why I had to post a picture of the sale sign while I was at Costco last week.
Update: have about 150 miles or so on these tires. My wife has been driving the car about 75% of the time and she does not drive for fuel economy. The indicated MPG gauge is 53.1, I believe normally with the Michelin Energy tires with my wife mainly driving the gauge would probably read about 54-56 mpg or so. Now these are brand new tires so I would imagine they are breaking in and probably after a few hundred miles we should be obtaining the same mpg's as the Michelin tires. Also these tires appear to be little taller than the Michelin Energy tires. They are quiet and roll very smoothly and at this point I am satisfied. I have a 30 day money back guarantee on these tires and if they do no perform up to the standards as the Michelin I will exchange them for something else, maybe another set of Energy Saver tires. I will be on vacation the end of this month and that will be the true test after a 1,000 mile plus road trip....
It will be interesting to see your results after they have a couple thousand miles on them and it's still hot out. They will be fully broken in and delivering their long term fuel economy.
Update: 354.4 miles / indicated mpg 53.5 / calculated 51 mpg / My wife mostly drove, looks like a loss right now of about 2 or maybe 3 mpg over the energy saver tires which had 68,000 miles on them. I am pretty sure they will get better mpg's as they wear in a little.
Update: 146.4 miles / 50.605 mpg calculated We now have over 500 miles on these tires. When I filled up at Costco I reset the trip meter and upon return home, 11 miles the indicated mpg's was 65 mpg. Pretty close to what I would normally get on the Energy Savers. I am pretty sure they will get more mpg's as they wear in a little more.
These are the tires that came on my Prius, so it will be interesting to see if there are better ones out there.
were these ever the OEM tire? I bought my 2011 used with 6,000 miles on it and these tires were mounted - very happy so far.
The original tires when new were Yokohama Avid. I believe that was the factory installed standard tire for the 2010 Prius model.
Well, on my 2012 the Bridgestones were on my vehicle and it only had 2 miles on the odemeter when I bought it.
Aye most models came equipped with the AVID S33D. The PIP and Five models came with a variety of tires. Dmatt, are you sure they are EP422 and not EP20?
Well I have had my EP422 for 45k and have been very happy average 53.5mpg and found better traction performance in winter over the stock yoko stock tires have about 15k left on the tires so I will plan on replacing them before winter and the Costco deal is the way to go from a cost standpoint
I have Bridgestone Ecopia EP422's on my 2006 Prius. I have 21,000 miles on them, and the service tech who did my 90K preventive maintenance service said they need to be replaced - lots of cupping and feathering. I liked they way they handled much better than the OEM's that were on the car before.
