50+ club

I'm jealous.

My personal record at the moment is 47.8 miles, and to get that I had to hypermile (almost no use of the brake, lots of coasting down way before stops, really gradual acceleration, etc...). I've been meaning to make another attempt at 50 but haven't had an opportunity where I wouldn't be annoying other drivers.

What was your average speed? I had thought peak efficiency was around 45 mph, but then I saw a video with one of the engineers saying theoretical most efficient speed is 35 mph.

 

Let's see you repeat the above display in colder weather when you are running your heater.

Nice good going if that is your first "50".

I get 50miles per charge most of the summer, before my recent trip I have 8 days in a row of 50 Estimated range in the morning and 55ish (actual 40-45, remaining 15-10). My recent trip, we had 4 adults, 8 pieces of luggage:


and still we managed to get 57.23205 miles (as reported from voltstats.net). I was taking it easy as i really wanted to make it with no gas.. so mostly 65 on the highway. Unfortunately the charger we were going to was 61.27299 miles so I failed and used gas ;-( (I don't take picks on failure..)

 

Hit 52 a couple days ago with the temps in the low 90s and had A/C on the entire time (but in ECO). 2/3rds fan was set to Auto and 1/3rd fan was set to level 1. I regularly get 45 for 2/3rds of the year here in Chicagoland.

Today, on a single charge





It would have been 115km on a battery charge, but my gf wanted to take a pee at the petrol station right before the long descent. I had 3km left in the battery and I turned off the Ampera.
When I turned it back on, the battery was gone and the previous battery range was added to the gasoline buffer :-(
Almost all driving after the petrol station was on a battery, using the long descent's regenerative energy, so that should be counted to the battery range, however the car moved the remaining 3km of battery range to the gasoline range and displayed 0km left in the battery after I turned the car back on and all the distance was counted towards the gasoline range instead to battery range :-(
That's why the gasoline range is 30+km with 0.2+ litres used. If I hadn't turned off the car, the battery range would be aprox 115km.

Starting the day with 50mile (80k) estiamted range always gives me a smile, even after nearly a year.
I smile a lot.

And btw.. after a tad of regen you could have stoped and restarted and the miles would have been CD. The battery level often drops after you shut it off (floating voltage measurements can be off a bit), but if you have enough charge and restart it will switch back to CD.

 

Thank you! That's good to know. To bad I didn't know it earlier or 25 more kilometers would have been added to the battery odometer.
I'm itching to try that route once again I've got to make it on battery alone.

 

Still not a member of the 50+ club, but I did just set a new personal record with my first 2000+ mile tank (2003.6 miles of 8.4 gallons [what was needed to fill it back up]).

It did mean going the last 200 or so miles listening to the low fuel warning everyday. I probably could have made it another couple of days but I was getting really tired of it.

 

Congrats on a decent tank. I realize your driving demands a lot more ICE usage than many volt owners.
I've had 50+ all week -- its easier if you can do trips that are < 65mph (high 50s need < 40mph).
Best tank for me was just over 4000miles, and like you I listened to the annoying chime for a while to break that limit.
I was just at the margin so some days it would warn, others it would be quiet because the gas expanded with temps).


Last weekend I did a pikes peak climb and ended the day with 81miles of EV (tought the ICE did the hard work climing the mountain, 39miles of regen on the way down was nice.

Exactly! Gasoline costs 1.5 EUR / litre = 7.4 US$ / gallon and that's cheap for Europe. In neighbouring Italy, it costs 1.9 EUR / litre = 9.4 US$ / gallon.
