that damn annoying backup beep. And isn't the beep supposed to be for those OUTSIDE the car ... not for we doing the backing up?

    Second whine ....

I keep thinking there should be some simple type of door latch/key/release for the charge door. Just for piece of mind from someone damaging the plug thingy for kicks.

i guess it's to warn us 'senior' drivers that we're in reverse so we don't hit something behind us.:p you can have it turned off by the dealer. toyota definitely does some odd things.

Hahahaha ... then perhaps I should be embracing the stupid roadrunner noise since I'm in the "senior" class.

I didn't know the the dealer would turn it off ... I'd think they'd be sceered to do that in our litigious society. And sadly, the dealer I bought it from is 250 miles away. Can I just smack something ... I'm good with a BFH. :ROFLMAO:

I had the dealer disable it before I picked it up.

I hooked up my Scanguage I salvaged from the wrecked 2009...works perfectly. So how does one use the Scan gauge to make changes?

I had the dealer add ultrasonic backup sensors. They changed the continuous backup beep to only one beep when put into reverse. The backup camera is nice, but not enough since you cannot see anyone or anything moving toward you while backing up.

First of all, a backup camera is not a substitute for looking over your shoulder, or using your mirrors. It's there to see what is directly behind you. You know, the stuff you can't see in your mirrors, or when you look over your shoulder. It's there to provide an additional piece of information, not replace everything else.

That said, when I use the backup camera, I am able to see people or cars that are moving towards me, or passing behind me. Because of the fish-eye nature of the camera lens, and where the camera is mounted, I have found that I need to concentrate on the top third of the screen. Sometimes that part of the screen is blocked by banner messages (for instance if you are adjusting the volume of the radio, or switching audio inputs). Waiting until those banner messages have gone away should provide a better view of things. If you are still having issues, take the car back to the dealer to get them to adjust the camera angle.

I'm surprised at the delay in the back-up camera when I shift into reverse. My 2006 Prius was instantaneous. My new 2012 PIP Advanced can have a big delay. :(

The continuous backup beep can be turned into a single beep, but not disabled altogether. Don't let the dealer charge you a penny for modifying it either. Talk to a manager if you have to, or the sales manager you bought your car from - have him talk to the service guys if necessary.

If you go to the dealer you bought the car from, you can usually talk them into billing the 5 minutes it takes to change the setting to their internal new-car make-ready account.
