LAX Parking NOT free

By the way, are there other so cal airports that offer free parking? Orange or Long Beach?

 

More freebies. Lots 1 and 6 don't require taking a shuttle.

 

FYI guys/girls, if all the EV spots are taken, against the inside wall there are a couple of 120's where you can use your personal charger. I parked next to a leaf using the 120. I didn't charge, because I'm slightly fearful someone will steal my personal charger especially at LAX.

 

My experience has been that you do indeed get to park for free, but you have to explain the situation to the parking booth attendants; they don't seem to know what to do with a plug-in asking for free parking, and the attendant invariably ends up calling for a supervisor, who explains the program.

 

I parked in LAX lot P6 last week,,Thursday thru Saturday. Upon arrival, all chargers were occupied. When leaving, I noticed three spots open (of an available 15-20?). That was Saturday afternoon. On exiting the lot, I was not charged for parking. The clerk walked around to the back, asked for my driver's license and phone number, then called someone else over to sign a form that the clerk was writing on. The entire process was rather quick, about 3 minute maybe. There was no discussion as to whether the Prius PHEV qualified. So it looks as if the phone calls and emails to LAWA have yeilded the desired results. Thanks to all who put forth that effort. I will plan on parking in P6 on my weekly trips to LAX. Hopefully, I will even get to charge, once in a while!

 

In my experience at LAX, I have found that there are usually more chargers available at Lot 1 than in Lot 6. But in either lot, free parking at LAX for a month is a hell of a good deal, whether or not you get to charge the battery!

 

I parked at LAX twice recently. First time no charge. 2nd time, $180 for 6 days. The parking attendent called a supervisor. The supervisor told me it was a hybrid and I had to pay. I had him call his supervisor who said I had to pay. no point in arguing further. I asked him to show me a list of approved vehicles that was xeroxed and taped inside the booths. No Prius. I'm going to follow up and try and get a refund and to get them to change the damn xerox.

 

I'm new to this thread and my PIP. Where can you park for free with a PIP at LAX?

 

I leave in 10 days for a week out of LAX - this has soooo made my day! Brilliant!

 

Yes, agreed. I also went to the LAWA parking page online and will print that too. I would think that if you show the booth attendant the outlet on the car and that it takes a plug, they would understand. Best to be safer than sorry though!

 

One last question for this thread - you CAN park in a non-charging parking space, correct? I'd rather not leave my cord out in the open like that either and would just park in a regular space with my PIP.

Yes, you have to park in 1 or 6--the attendant couldn't possibly know if you occupied a charging or a non-charging parking space. I think it's a good idea to bring a printout of the airport's free PIP parking policy--my experience has been that some parking attendants will let you park for free without a hassle, while others know next to nothing about parking, have to call a supervisor, etc. It's a slow process getting out of the parking structure, but it's worth the hassle.

 

I also emailed the parking people at LAX and received an email confirming the free parking at lots 1 and 6.

 

Just went to Vegas over the weekend.. parking was free upon my return. $90 charge in front of me.. I paid $0. Gotta love it.

There was no place to park and charge, but upon my return there was 1 spot, so I sat in my car for 45 minutes to give it a little charge.

 

I parked in lot 6 for two weeks in a non-charging spot. No issues leaving. Just needed a copy of my license and a supervisor to approve.
