Do you exchange a wave with the PiP drivers when you pass them on the road?

Yes, although I've only seen two other PiPs while driving my own. The first one, the guy wasnt even looking over so I didnt bother. The second one, he followed me for a few miles and then pulled up next to me at a light.. we both waved/thumbs-up at each other.

Most of the PiPs I've seen in the wild were while driving the family car.. so I thought it would be a little odd to wave

Yes, I saw couples while driving my C to work. Same as your case, either I was not driving my PiP or they were not looking over.

Not yet because to my knowledge I'm the first PIP sold in Wisconsin. For that matter if you did see one how would you know? They look the same as other Prius vehicles except for the small PIP emblem on the sides, right?

Well, I haven't seen a PiP in the wild, other than a parked one the other day. But I will surely wave when I see one being driven. In fact, I wave to other Gen III's that I see while driving. But just as 'sport car' drivers used to wave to each other here in the US, as the population of PiPs grows, they will become so common place that it would be distracting to do so much waving. Pity that... radio

Yes, mainly because only other PiP owner in Colorado that I know of (possibly the only other one in the state) is my next door neighbor!

With the exception of my fathers PiP, I've never seen another one on the road so no one to wave to even if I wanted...

It should be relatively quick though. From the front, if it has the silver accent across the front it's a PiP. All other 2012's have black for the whole shroud. From the rear it's easy with the all clear new tail lights (the liftback has red in them) and it has the silver across the whole piece where the Toyota emblem is. Sides would be the hardest to spot quickly, even with the silver door handles, since they can blend in on the 4 lighter colors with the exception of the winter gray metallic and spotting the rims while stopped is a giveaway but at speed that a tough one lol.

yeah i know all the cues but it's just hard sometimes. i think the rims are the easiest one but as you say in motion that's impossible. i think one of the dealers i talked to said the sea glass color was exclusive for the PiP but obviously that's wrong... i see a lot of regular 2012s in that color.

in contrast spotting another leaf is really easy and i do usually try to wave then. no risk of a false positive :)

i saw a white PIP the other day and could not distinguish the silver strip in the back from the rest of the paint.

of course, the green HOV stickers are a dead giveaway in CA but it seems that all the ones i've seen recently (and i did see 3 in one day!) do not yet have stickers.

The clearwater blue is exclusive to the Pip, not the seaglass... he probably just made a mistake or truly doesn;t know like, unfortunately, too many dealers.

I've yet to ever see a Leaf on the roads around here. I'm in NYC but not Manhattan (thank God) and still have yet to see one. I saw tons in Cali last year and I have to say, in black all shined up, it looked beautiful.

Lol, that's true, in Cali having the Wonka-won Stickers on a Prius is a giveaway for a PiP..

Does this count? I was on a Bus trip to the Outer Banks, NC and walked up to a PIP owner who was also visiting and knocked on his window to tell him he has the identical PIP as mine. I might have first shocked him, but he understood my excitement.

I haven't seen the other 3 PIPs in Rochester, NY yet.

We don't wave or honk at anyone in Los Angeles. If you do, you will be shot.

We also don't smile, say hello, good morning, Sir or Ma'am. If you hold the door open for a woman, she won't say thank you. We have a general policy in LA to treat everyone you don't know like dirt.

when the car is moving it's hard to tell what kind of wheels it has...

i swear that i saw a dark grey PIP yesterday that did not have silver accents on the hood grille - it was all blacked out.

Doorhandles are a dead giveaway. That and the silver accents to front and rear... or the extra rear circle to the q-panel for the charge. I can usually spot one by checking things off in my head:
Clearwater Blue color - HAS to be a plugin.
If it's silver, dark gray, pearl white or Seaglass... then it's possible. Check for the silver across the rear decklid OR the front grille area.
Silver is the hardest one to tell from afar. Or,, in CA, look for the green HOV stickers!
I see loads of them on the 405 on my way home - most of them MY own clients LOL!
