Welcome to the 600 Mile Club! I thought it would be fun to start two new clubs. One for those who have reached 600 miles on a tank of gas and one for those nutty members who have reached the vaulted 700 mile ranks (I'll start a new thread for that one). Since I have done neither (my max was 598 miles) I cannot officially get this Club started so who's going to post the first picture and tell us their story? Requirements: A picture of your HSI display with the required number of miles A description of your techniques (doesn't have to be exhaustive) and conditions Time of year How long you ran on the blinking low-fuel warning light Wheel and tire setup Members of the 600 Mile Club kdkuhns3 (GenIII) Codyroo (GenIII) PaulHS(GenII) TonyPSchaefer (GenII) markabele (GenIII) bwilson4web (GenI and GenIII) fuzzy (GenIII) jsfabb (GenIII) GasperG (GenIII) F8L (GenIII) Walter Lee (GenIII) johalareewi (GenIII) kalome (GenIII) SoCalBPrius (GenIII) Corywn (GenII) r3dl4b3l (GenIII) AZGeek (GenIII on 17s!) szgabor (GenIII) guicide (GenIII) Murali (GenII) Kore971 (GenIII on 17s) rokibler (GenIII) Texas-Prius (GenIII) wesayso (GenIII) Braddles.au (GenIII) Selzier (GenIII) felix-mizioznikov (GenIII) Kmuse (GenIII) seckwielen (GenIII) mozdzen (GenIII) EchoToPrius (GenIII) 2fastplus (GenIII) lizardacres (GenIII) ConfusedBirdie (GenIII) spoolinq (GenIII) retired4999 (GenII) Red09 (GenII) HprDad (GenIII) Joe-G (GenIII) PriusBull (GenIII) mcmoyer (Prius v) Bob Wilson (GenIII) Rupert B Puppenstein (GenIII) skwcrj (Prius v) biobeetle (Prius v) Kermit 262 (GenIII) Dravor (GenIII) EchoToPrius (GenIII) David Gretzmier (GenIII) Bigleftyinaz (CT200h)
-No highway driving. Mostly my 11 mile each way commute. P&G whenever possible, no ac, windows down. mostly mid 80s and sunny. Maybe a day or two of rain. -Summer time -Ran less than 10 miles on blinking light, 18 miles to empty indicated -OEM 15" wheels and tires
Yeah, I don't like to run it too low, but now that there is a 700 club...I may just push it the last couple miles if need be, lol.
I will hopefully have my first official entry into the 600 mile club by the weekend and then with the same tank hopefully I can get into the 700 club!
My best is 530 miles; could have been closet to 600 if it weren't for the Wth factor from the fiancé... After the derecho a couple weeks ago, will keep my tank at half way... I was lucky in not loosing power for days on end.... But taught me not to take things for granted....
ha, yeah. luckily for me, I am either alone or with my two kids in the car, and they don't care if I hypermile or not
My Dad is paranoid when it comes to that. He fills up when it gets down half way. Never has his vehicle go below half. He was riding with me one day when my one bar was blinking and he was very unsettled by it. He kept on mentioning if I was going to get gas. I said "ah, I got plenty...i'll get it later on". The most I let it get down to is 1.5 gallons left in tank filling up @ 10.40g but usually I have around 2 gallons left.
I got this on my September 30, 2011 fill up. Late summer driving in warm temps with no A/C usage and little to no driving on the weekends, basically my to work and home commute. My commute is about 70 miles roundtrip with 4 - 5 miles of surface streets (at the beginning and end), 7-8 miles of slow and go traffic (pulse and glide traffic) and 50 - 55 miles of free flowing traffic (max speed 60 mph). I typically have no headwind going to work and get a favorable tailwind coming home (the winds pick up in the afternoon). I put a little over 10 gallons (calc = 66.4 mpg)
Since F8L mentioned Hill (GenII) on the 700 club thread, I guess I can add my 600+ GenII numbers here. I don't really see much significance with tank mileages so there are no pictures but I've kept records. Without specifics, my Prius has completed 19 600+ tanks on fillups ranging from 8.4 to 10.8 gallons. Never had a blinking pip. My commute is 18 miles round trip on suburban roads. I seldom drive the highway. Wheels are Volk racing CE28 ECO 15x6 with EP100 tires aired up to 44/42 psi. The high mileage tanks I attribute to warm weather, when the tank will take a full fillup. My last 5 tanks have been 600+. I'll put my 700+ tanks on the 700 club thread.
Reminds me a month ago riding with my fiancé, we were doing a drive to C-Ville Va. He noticed my gas gage and became concerned at the low bars. I was down to one bar (no blinking) and his comment when he mentioned the low fuel and my desire to make it to C-Ville was "are you F**King kidding me" After the storms a few weeks ago, I will never let the tank get that low. Bragging rights or not...
Ok, I just have to say this. Do not upset your fiancé for the sake of these new clubs. A good tank is not worth the fighting. Just keep him happy. We won't think less of you.
You could do Reston to Centreville on one bar in an Escalade! Ok, maybe not, but it's certainly not that far coming down the parkway or 28 for a Prius. Mixed driving with the wife and I and it's looking on our first tank that we'll be near the 600 mile mark. I'll update accordingly when we get there.
I'm at 2 bars of fuel right now, 550 miles, and the CONS says something like 68 mpg, this tank will easily get over 600, the real question is.. how long do I have once the last one starts flashing before I really need gas. I don't really think I want to find out, I'm not really extreme like that.
(1) I was wondering if you meant Charlottesville. (2) I am going to get my first 500 mile tank this week. I feel like such a slacker. EDIT: OOPS, was wrong, last tank was 501.
At the mileage you are getting now, you will hit 600 before it even flashes. I almost always let it go down to flashing one bar. My fill up today I didn't because I was getting the best tank ever and wanted to log it before I get hit with some short trips tomorrow and possibly Wednesday. I had 3 bars left.
