In the Venza, that second cup holder in the center isn't a cup holder, it's an iPod/iPhone shelf. Works great.

Thank you for doing this! I have been scheming a way for a while to mount my phone and this had been an idea for quite some time. I had priced out the same parts when I had initially thought up this idea about a year ago and it ended up being more than $100. Now that the prices have come down, so has the wife's hesitance on letting me do this.

I was planning on running the sync cable down the pole under the cover and along the baseboard into the center console so the cable won't be pinched by the armrest constantly opening and closing. My only issue is finding a safe way to do this without tearing up the console.

How is the stability of the pole? Does your phone shake at all with high speeds or vibration from the road?

There seems to be a very slight wobble when the phone is mounted in the cradle, but when a passenger has their leg against the pole it disappears. I also just put my hand on it and it will stop the slight shaking. certainly bounces a whole lot less than the mount on the boat.

So far the only complaints from my wife have been the aesthetics of the install; no comments on taking up leg room.

There is a small gap in the armrest for the cable to run, and i havent had any problems pinching yet.

That's what I use my cupholder for. If you flip the lid up, the iPhone rests perfectly across the opening.

I went with the overkill , passenger seat post , didn't want the slight wobble and wanted to keep it scale-able for later. I do like those X-Grip Mounts =)

    For what its worth...

Whoa seems a bit overkill. What is the alternate shifter?

Indeed it is, I think the laptop tray pushes it over the top, takes the most room too , with out it seemed just right

I went with this setup after seeing yours. It looks like you used a longer bolt to attach the bracket to the seat mount. I loosened both front seat mount bolts, lifted the seat slightly, and slipped the Ram bracket underneath the inboard mount, and was able to use the original bolt. This replaces a Bracketron cupholder unit, and so far I'm very happy with it and getting back use of the front cupholder. This one will hold either my phone or Magellan GPS unit, and by loosening the receiverthe X-Grip will swivel to a horizontal position. Minor vibration, but no worse than the cupholder one I used before.
